CSS layout advice please

hiya ppl!

I am pretty new to CSS so i am constanly finding situations where i am unsure of the best way to structure the css for a design.

Here is one i am not sure about... the white area needs to be scalable in height and the shadow would need to follow...

any advice please!

put the white + drop shadow as one background image to your page.
