Hi All,

I'm soon to take on a project that I am thinking (hoping) to use PHP and mySQL.

I am told there may be around 5000 users to be registered on the system.

I am looking for some reasurance that mySQL will cope with this well. Also, any good tutorials/articles I could look at for this.

Thanks, Andy

How many concurrent users? If you are talking about 5000 registered users that's no problem - 5000 concurrent users is a different story.

Surely it would matter more about the hardware elements than the software?

Its for a e-learning type system, so hopefully only around 100 users will be logged on the system at the same time.

I'm not sure on the users hardware at the moment, but will be looking to host this on a server, prob with 1&1.

eLearning eh? Have you thought of Moodle: www.moodle.org

Yer, did have a little look at that. We need something that looks really sexy, well designed etc. Also, the course we will be plugging in is flash.
I couldn't really see any examples of really well designed e-learning courses plugged into it. Anyone done any?

Also - this is only for 1 course at the moment, but would be good to be able to add more.

Well have a look at: http://learn.rave.ac.uk/moodle/

This is my old college's implementation of Moodle. It's not 'sexy', but it's better looking that the normal Moodle skin.

Learn.com do an e-learning 'Player' which streams content from the web and allows you to learn from your living room. I think it's flash based but I'm not 100%.

I'm looking again at moodle now....

Things i'm unsure with it are:

- If I built a flash test, i.e. with drag and drops - would this be able to send out the data to mark it and say the student has passed or failed.
- Can I add flash courses?!
- How much can I chop and change the whole layout etc.

I will try and download a copy and fiddle around with it if the above comments come back positive. Or if anyone has any other screen shots of how they've made moodle look and feel great! Thanks!
