pen tool seems to be malfunctioning

I'm learning bezier curves with the pen tool, and when I try to set the corner point using the alt key, sometimes it works, sometimes the second adjustment handle just disappears. Anyone else with this problem before?

I have heard Vista does not run Flash well. So, if you have Vista this could be a problem. Try a restart.
