I'm looking to build a large user database system... typical user information and users can purchase different media items with credits, all the purchased items will be available to view through web browser or through an AIR application. I'm a flash developer so I have the AIR end and graphics covered... I have a friend who runs a custom shopping cart solution, so that one is covered.. I don't plan to actually develop much on the database part, just working with someone or hiring people who can. What is the best way to start a large user system like this? also looking for any online resources someone might recommend. the closest thing i can find that would be similar is http://www.finetune.com

Ok, well you can either build it yourself or get an 'off the shelf' solution, what works best for your budget and time frame?

I found something that will work pretty well for prototyping.. PHP/MYSQL/AMFPHP .. I'm looking to get a sample system running and then working with someone who has more experience to build a larger system. Any recommendations for off-the-shelf products?

Best thing I can think of, and I've worked with is this: http://www.opencart.com/ -- very easy to use and expand, especially if you're good with OOP.
