And now for some actual statistics (yes, I am really bored):
Flash 8 Forum:
34 people currently viewing.
6 of 23 (not counting 2 stickies) posts on the front page have 0 replies.
26% of posts on first page have no response.
Flash CS3 Forum:
25 people currently viewing.
13 of 25 posts on the front page have 0 replies.
52% of posts on first page have no response.
So just going by the statistics I'd say there is no evidence that the Flash 8 forum is used less than similar forums.
Just from observation I've noticed that all of the Actionscript forums seemed to be used more than the corresponding Flash forum. That doesn't necessarily mean we should get rid of the Flash forum though.

Flash 8 will be here to stay for a while, even though most of the regulars to this forum don't use Flash that much.

Since you have found what you feel is a void, perhaps you could help others by stepping in a lending a hand then with some feedback and answers :smirk:
Oddly enough you did not mention the MX2004, MX and Flash 5 forums which also still recieve questions.
So again, lets see some posts and helping others randomagain, fill the void :smirk:

Erm, you're suggesting closing a forum based on the vendors previous new release of their software.
