Hello all!
I just won a Xbox through a radio contest. One of my old roomates had a playstation and I really got into a game called Syphon Filter. That was about two years ago. I was actually bummed when I found out that you can't play Syphon Filter on Xbox.
So, does anyone know of any games in the Xbox world that is like Syphon Filter? I've seen Halo and Splinter Cell and they look close. I liked Syphon Filter because it was an espionage game. I like being sneaky!!
Thanks guys and girls!

Congrats. I've got an xbox but I never play it... I'm not a big console guy, I guess I just have it for when I have parties and stuff for entertainment.

First, thanks on the congrats - in PHX, there's a radio station that on Thursdays you have to answer your phone 'get a life with 103.9 the edge' and they give you stuff!!
What I find ironic is that the contest is called 'get a life' yet they give me something that will keep me in my house for hours...alone. :*(
That's cool. I know exactly what will happen. I'll find a cool game, play it for a few weeks, figure out how to beat the game (step by step via cheating/internet hahaha) and then use it as an overpriced DVD player!! Cool...:P

Mdipi - I have cable and was looking at that on the web a little while ago. Do you just hook up the NIC cable to the modem and watch it go? Or is it a extra service you have to buy?

Well since you probably want to use your computer @ the same time, you'll need a router or IP addressing box to hand out IPs and negotiate traffic. But basically you just spend 50$ they give you a Microphone and headset and a little chip. Then you go plug in and punch in a credit card number and you are online... Also, if you have a memory chip then you can take ur stuff to a friends house and use it there.
Another cool feature is that you can talk to people you are playing with like in CS and the cOOlest feature is that you can change your voice so you can sound like a hot 18/f from so cali that is tearing up in MechAssault. ;)

I'm already splitting the line between two computers - might as well add another!!
I saw that voice thing on the xbox website - it was pretty funny, I was laughin at the 'robot voice'. I'd probably stick to the robot one, instead of the girl. However, I'll keep that in mind when I'm talking to someone that I think is a woman!! That happened once in Tiajuana...uh...nevermind...(j/k)

wow! good luck! i cant even find a penny on the side of a road. anyways, i prefer ps2, and a new syphon filter is coming out this year for it. if you want a greak xbox espionage game, get splinter cell. i have it for ps2 and it is one of my favorite games.

Cool - looks like Splinter Cell takes the cake!! I agree with Ungle G, I'd perfer winning a PS2 - but beggers can't be choosers!! And about my luck - don't worry, I've used up the rest of my luck for the year (I hope I'm wrong!!) - Thanks for the advice!
My brother still has a PS2, so I'm gonna have to look out for Syphon Filter 4 (after I play the third...:P)

HALO may not be what you are looking for exactly,
but it is a great game, friends and I have spent many hours in the multiplayer mode...I love it.
The actual single player game, is pretty challenging. I don't necessarily like it; but it is fun. I don't like it because I'm a multiplayer type of gamer.

Wow! You actually *won* an Xbox?! Lucky you!! I wish I won one! It's not that I don't want to buy one, but I'm afraid I won't play enough with it.
Anyway, congrats! :)

x-box - comfortably houses a family of 4.
When the next generation console comes out, homeless people can sleep in the discarded carcasses of abandoned x-boxes. (and thats just the control pad)
Sorry! Im not a fan of the x-box. I appreciate its an impressive bit of console hardware, but there is something about it i really don't like. I cannot get on with it at all.

I reckon you just don't like that it's by Microsoft

Is it the flashy intro that says "look at us, we're so big and powerful"
???
TheOrangeOne
July 25th, 2003, 10:33 AM
*sigh*
intro isn't that flashy. but that isn't it.
I guess its just a number of little niggly things.
The pads are uncomfortable to hold for a few reasons:
*They are not very ergonomic. Bill gates must have some strange shaped hands if they are!
*The buttons feel uncomfortable and not all that nice to press
*The shoulder buttons are too stiff
Most of the games I've played on the console feel like there is somthing 'missing'. Even the almighty Halo, which is a VERY good game, feels like it needs a little extra.
It is big and ugly, although i guess looks ain't everything
To play DVD's you need to purchase the official remote. This annoys me because it shows that the x-box already has the ability to play dvds without being modded, just you cant becuase the designers are idiots. After buying a console I dont expect to pay extra for features that are already inherent within the console.
I JUST DONT LIKE IT!

I've got an XBox, and I have to say I prefer the PS2... Halo and Splinter Cell are good, I've got both of them, plus Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance which I'm God at. :) Those are the only three games that I have for it. I've had to buy a smaller controller too, as the original one was too big for my little hands.

That said, this is microsofts first attempt at the console market, and they havn't done too bad a job. I think its cute the way that the x-box is all PC components in a black case.
Anyway, Maybe their next console will be better, afterall they have got the money for it and now they have 'experimented' with a real console they should be able to iron out some of the problems people have had.

I love all my consoles equally
Currently hooked up in my living room:
Snes, Genesis, N64, Xbox, Ps2, Gamecube...
That said The contollers for xbox are perfect for me. I have big hands and it just feels right.
The new s contollers were built for little tiny jap hands. (no offence to the little tiny jap's here...you know I luv ya)
But the reason you need to buy the remote and eye are pretty cool. The xbox is not regioned for DVD playback. So I could take it over to japan and for the first time I run a dvd on it, it records the reigon to the hard drive and only will play dvd's from that region.
all in all. I love my xbox.

I read yesterday that Microsoft looses about $75 for every xbox sold.

Most game companies lose money per console sold, it's the games that they make the money from.
I don't think there's one console out at the moment that makes a profit when sold

same with nintendo. they are making huge losses for each gamecube sold. I hope they dont go the way of sega.

^i know me too. GC is an amazing system. the new S type controlers are so comfortable, have you felt them? PS2's controler, well dont get me started on that, i dont even know how to hold it! lets just not start a flame war on XBox vs PS2 we got enough of those, just run a search.

Hello All!
I'm going to the radio station to get my Xbox this morning. I'm almost giddy!! I feel like I'm twelve! (Well, I act like I'm twelve, so..)
prstudio -
I had my wonders about HALO. I downloaded a nine minute commercial about HALO and honestly, I didn't find it too intriguing - but, oh, the gore!! It's Duke Nuke'Em...
Kajinku -
Yeah, knowing my normal luck, it's a joke and I'll get a cardboard box with a 'x' painted on it. I hope that doesn't happen, it'll ruin my day...and my giddiness!
TheOrangeOne -
Don't you have to buy a remote to use the DVD feature on a PS2 as well? I think it's crap too that you have to buy other stuff to get other features it already has to work, but, truth be told, it's marketing - I can't think of a company that doesn't do that.
Your StarWars smiley faces in your footer had me laughing so hard I think I lost a little pee!!
Kit, Kit, Kit-
the original one was too big for my little hands. http://freddythunder.com/test/blush.gif
Is there anything you could possibly say that won't make me love you more!!?? We'll have to hook up our Xbox's some day so you (GOD) can beat me at Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance!! :beam:
Fester -
Holy crap man!! Do you ever leave the house?? Not that it applies to me (I stay in AZ/USA most of the time) but are you saying that the DVD playback is limited to one region? Like, if you play a Japanese kung fu movie (like from Japan) on the first try, I wouldn't then be able to play Super Troopers? or Airplane?! No!!
jonster -
I agree, I heard that they lose money too. I think it's like printers. I bought a printer/scanner/copier for $100 brand new, but the cartridges are like $100 for the both of them. Ah, marketing!!
Thanks all for posting - You'll make my future accessory purchaces easier for me!! :beam:

HA HA...
Unfortuatly I dont get to play them that often. But When I do get the chance I totally unplug and play for hours. You would not believe how many game cartridges and discs I have in my condo.

Thats what I am saying. So make sure sure you use a region 1 DVD first.

Good deal on the DVD thing. I have a DVD player but it overheats and skips (cheap POS!!).
I just got back from the radio station and it IS in fact a real Xbox!! And it comes with the 'controller s' so I guess they figured the bigger controler was no good!!

July 25th, 2003, 02:21 PM
wait i am not ot sure i get it fester. if i have been playing DVD's from here in the US and i order a dvd from japan i couldnt watch it cause its not the same region?
fester8542
July 25th, 2003, 02:31 PM
Right dude.
Usually your dvd player is regioned to only play dvd's that have this region encoded on the disk.
Europe, Asia, North America all have thier own regions. I could not buy a dvd from a vendor in the UK and run it on my xbox
(unless I modded it)

July 25th, 2003, 02:42 PM
that sucks! oh well though. aislin modded his, said its teh best thing he ever did. i want to but it scares the crap outta me.
and i dont want to do that to my 1st edition xbox. if i got a new one i would in a heart beat though.

There is this guy I work with that modded both his box, and his ps2. He has it hooked up so that he can play cd-r and dvd-r backups.
He offered to mod mine, but Its not worth getting caught.
Plus videogame prices are reasonable.
mdipi
July 25th, 2003, 02:57 PM
whats the point of modding a PS2? i never got that...
but aislin said that he doesnt even notice load times or anything. he has a switch too so he can still play live. and that or tech support is the only way to get caught. but if you have a problem iwht your box its your problem and you have to fix it...
fester8542
July 25th, 2003, 03:00 PM
if you mod your Ps2 you can rent video games and make copies of them and the ps2 has the ability to play the backups.
Its tempting because you would pay like $2 to own the game versus $50+

This thing's got more controls than my car!!
I rented 007 -Agent Under Fire. It's kinda cool. I wanted to rent Splinter Cell but couldn't find it. Oh well.
Honestly though, I had it hooked up through my tv and surround sound in record time!!

I've played MKDA on the XBox and the PS2, and I'm surprised to say that it's actually better on the Microsoft machine. Now I've got the controller s I can actually reach all the buttons now. :P
I modded my PS1. Well, one of them anyway, as there are loads of RPGs that were never released in Europe that I wanted to play (one word: Xenogears). Never bothered with the PS2 though. :)

AUF sucks compared to...every bond game lol. you should rent nightfire! i beat it in like a week but it was the most fun i ever had, with a bond game since Goldeneye. Splinnter Cell is a hard find, i have been wanting to rent it for ages but havent found it :-\
Freddythunder
July 25th, 2003, 04:28 PM
Hi Kit...
Mdipi -
I'm gonna have to try nightfire. Sounds cool - and a quick game to beat is great for a rental!! ;) Late fees kill me!!
This bond one's pretty good. I'm up to level three and planning to do nothing all day but this...Hmmm. The only bad thing is at the end of level two, some chick came around in a limo and blew up our car and killed the hottest animated chick I've ever seen that I just saved in level one!! That's bs!! I'm James Bond dammit!! I didn't even get to see her naked!! Oh well. Maybe I'll save another one. :beam:
...bye Kit....:sure:
