Dont threaten me with a good time!
No wine for me thanx.
I had my bout with wine a couple of years ago. I always thought I hated it untill my sister dragged me to one of her friends weddings.
(the deal was if I went the drinks were on her all night...unfortunatly that was not the case and I almost missed ray bourque win the stanley cup with the avalanche (big thing for boston bruins fans) )
Long story short they had bottles of red wine on every table. I drank ours and loved it, then I drank another tables, then more and more and more.
I was dancing (bad bad bad thing to see) I was just a mess.
I ended the night by urinating on my sisters car.
No wine for fester :)

why does everyone have p4s? from what i heard they arent much better than the p3 (quality wise) and if you just ran dual p3s or AMD you cut the coast in half and get the same speed or better.
DigitalPimp
July 24th, 2003, 08:00 PM
P4's with hyper-threading are pimp. Otherwise, check out this TomsHardware (http://www6.tomshardware.com/cpu/20030217/cpu_charts-32.html#comparison_table) . This guy is the man when it comes to hardware and such. I have 4 computers because.... I guess I like to spend money. Oh yea, I left out my laptop but its just a Celeron 700 or something. ;)

i THINK the big difference between P4's and P3/celeron is the frontside bus speed and cache memory size (or something like that)...they still make celeron chips that go up to like 2.0 ghz and are a socket 478 chip (so they fit into P4 boards) but they only have like a 100 mhz frontside bus (compared to the 800 mhz fsb that some of the new P4 chips are gonna have) and 128 mb cache (compared to 512 on the P4).
i don't believe there is that much difference between the P4 and AMD though...i would rather pay the extra $25 bucks and go with intel...but that's just me.
i have no idea about the dual P3's...sounds expensive to me.

Yeah dual P3's - why pay more for older architecture? As DigitalPimp mentioned, P4's with HT, the faster bus, and the faster RAM (DDR or 1066Mhz Rambus) leave many comparable AMD systems in the dust :thumb:
mdipi
July 24th, 2003, 09:48 PM
thats just what i was told :-\ he said he saved a bunch of money doing it that way, i dont know though. i would rather go with AMD, thats just personal though.

mdipi,
In response to your post advising to get dual p3's or amd MP's. That is a horrible idea.
The P4 architecture is built to perform the best in multimedia. and gaming. AMD MP old now and the architecture is built for a server, the same with P3's.
Not to mention most P3's run on a 100MHZ FSB while P4's run on 533-800MHZ FSB.
Also if you understand dual processors, they are good in certain situations. If you are running a heavy database server or are doing heavy multimedia (ie, rendering), then a dual XEON would be best.
If you are using the computer for gaming or anything else, then definately go with a P4.
Have you ever wondered why a lot of gamers say AMD processors are the best? That is simply because AMD XP processors are DESIGNED for gaming, while pentium processors are DESIGNED for multimedia.
If you check, you will find that AMD might run 5FPS faster than a P4 processor in a game. However you will find in rendering videos that P4 can do it in half the time of a AMD.
Depending on what your doing, here is some advice:
heavy load server (ie, database) - dual xeons
standard web server - dual P3 or athlon MP
gaming - P4 or AMD XP
multimedia - P4
Whats the point of using old technology?

tomshardware is not a business and its not that guys site.
Anyways, the site is hard to navigate. The Reviews are not really easy to find, every thing feels clotted. For example, if you do a search, it returns results that are not very related to what you search for.

Why does it seem like you put down and knock on every post I make? Obvisiouly, TomsHardware CAN'T suck too bad, since he receives products from all the top manufactors to review prior to them being released.
If you have an opinion then fine but don't attack me or anything I post.

Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean it sucks. Believe it or not, you don't know everything there is.
tomshardware.com is a business... why do you say it is not?
they may be hard to navigate, but does that mean that they suck?
