creepy imagery

i'm making this animation to accompany a dark techno/d&b cd, and it's sposed to be real creepy and disturbing. apparently, i have creepy block or something, cuz i'm at a loss for ideas. so i figured id ask you guys what disturbs you? what kind of images do you think are just weird and scary and disturbing? waht kind of animation styles are just plain whacko? all suggestions are welcome!

i think odd unordinary things would give it an uneasy feeling,

Im actually pretty weird when it comes to these things, i can create some pretty disturbing images etc.. make you really freak lol

i'd use Dark bkg's and shadows, circus music playing backwards, flashing quickly bright errie images, .. .. distant screams....

I find fast motion video ultra creepy.

Clows, evil carnival kind of things. Dark dead trees in the fog. That kind of thing.

Have you seen the movie "house on haunted hill"

That part where they are looking through the security camera and see the killer dressed up as the doctor and he moves really fast and ... *shivers* that scares the crap outta me! I dont know what it is about that scene.

I would use dark backgrounds, black and awhite images if possible, scratchy lines moving perhaps. The circus music is a great idea, that or little kid sounds, like out of a mobile that would hang over a crib or something (saw it in a video game once)

THat was exactly the scene I was thinking of when I said that!

Golgi, Just run a fast framerate and export your video into stills. Remove a bunch of them and you should be good to go.

I dont want to watch it! For dome reason fast mo video really bugs me out!

hahah that rocks man - I have never talked to anyone who even noticed that part of the movie before. I will be trying to explain it to someone and they are like "what? I dont even remember that... your an idiot"

you guys are all giving great suggestions..

right now this is what i have:
the opening scene is done with a fade in to a vignette with scratchy lines (think old old old film) and there is like warped circusey music playing, with demon thingies dancing in a weird way..

there is some storyline to the thing.. invilving an angel, and some demons, and a fight and some stuff, and i have to check with the dude about soundFX, cuz im not sure if i can use them, but we'll see.. anyway, good suggestions..

HOLY, dudes, i had this REAL freaky dream last night, i'm tryign to use some stuff from that too, but like, everything that attacked me i bashed in its head. i killed like 5 or 6 evil things with my bare hands. it was oddly satisfying.

i think it's cuz im trying to up my hand-to-hand skill in morrowind, so i've been runnign aorund beating on scamps and such

Kit - that's where I saw the circus stuff... the merry go round in the first one... crazy!

Also - if you have ever played Shadow man, there is a section where you are in some kind of asylum and all the rooms are bloddy and there are kid laughs and mobile music and stuff through out the entire level... yikes!

i'm adding that technique into the opening dancing sequence, but i'd like to have something to mimic,

Now, let's think... creepy stuff. I don't really know how to put this in a concept, so I'll just name a few things that freaked me out before. Most of the time it's just short moments. Old and unclear sounding circus music that plays on an old gramophone is creepy. Especially when the track hangs, and repeats the same part over and over again.

1) In "The Exorcist", when the little girl is going up the stairs, backwards, and on her back... that's quite disturbing...

Weird people that do uncommon things is always kinda spooky.

2) Fast moving images, like said before.

3) Maybe not very spooky, but in "Signs", when Mel Gibson explains very calm to his brother that there are 2 kinds of people on this planet. They both sit in the dark, the only light in the room is the TV. There's a closeup on Gibson's face in the dark, and only his eyes are glowing a bit. It's like he's looking in the camera for a moment. :-\

4) In "The Sixth Sense", the kid wakes up and goes for a pee. While doing this, a dead woman passes by, just in front of the camera. The spooky part (when I first saw it) is the "DANG!"-sound when this happens. Shyamalan is a pro in making such moments! :)
