Plus the most anticipated game Spore
I'm sorry, but on what planet is Spore this year's most anticipated game?
GTA IV, GOW2, MGS4 anyone?
On topic, I'm very much looking forward to GOW2.
I would actually be perfectly happy with the same graphics and gameplay but with a longer and more engaging story than the first one. I'm thinking that Epic will have slightly tweaked the cover and combat systems, maybe thrown in some cool new moves, and polished up the graphics a little bit. And that works for me.
Anyone know when the movie is intended for release? I remember reading a small section of a (supposedly) proposed script and it was pretty darn good.

For the 2007 and 2008 release dates Spore was... on PC Gamer. And you know I only play PC games from other threads so I'll let it die there. Also I'm happy because my mac friends can play it also... same release date. And its not released on any other console than a dumbed down version on DS and Wii (actually quite interested how this turns out).

Weird. I had never heard of Spore until tonight, and I like to think I pay attention to the gaming world. Maybe I just neglect the PC sections on the gaming sites. Spore actually sounds pretty interesting. A bit too “The Sims meets Civilisation” for my tastes, but it's an original (and lofty) concept.
Anyway, doesn't GOW2 look hawt?

Wow - those are some great games coming out this year. I can't wait to play both Ninja Gaiden 2 and Gears of War 2. I watched a friend play all of Ninja Gaiden 1, and that was really entertaining. I bet actually playing it would be more so!

Potentially this year will be crazy, game wise.
Spore, GoW2, Gaiden and Warhammer Online are all four games I will personally play until I choke :)
Mostly looking forward to gow2 and Warhammer tho, admittedly.
On a total sidenote, I've never been a huge fan of CoD on xbox but I recently bought cod4 because of all the hoopla surrounding it and omigod it rocks :P

Totally can't wait for Gow2 (and SF4), but I thought the coolest part of the MS GDC conference was the new XNA revelations.
Not only have they dumped the original idea that you had to be a (paid) member of the creators club to play the "homebrew" games, they also revealed that any games created in XNA would be fully playable on 360, pc, and even transfer to the Zune. (If anyone actually buys one)
Suddenly single developers can create and show people a game, its like it's 1980 all over again! I gotta crack that XNA book I bought back open.

I agree, although I would have liked it a lot more if it had had splitscreen multiplayer.

No doubt there, that is my single biggest complaint about Paradise. The previous entries were the only racing games outside of MarioKart that my wife would play. Not having split screen really takes something away from it. (Still an outstanding game though.)
I really hate this push in the industry to move all multiplayer towards online; I get the appeal of that and everything, but I have to assume there is still a segment of players like myself who prefer local multiplayer. I don't really want to game with strangers (or swearing teenagers), I want to play with my "real" friends, most of whom do not own 360s. I'm actually contemplating buying a second 360 just to avoid the issue, although it would have to be one heck of a game to get me to buy two copies of it just to play with friends.

^ I don't know what you mean by that.
I agree with Noct. All the guys I live with have Xbox 360's but we rarely play online together. We do play lots of FIFA 08 locally, and used to play a great deal of eight player system link COD3 with two TVs and two 360s.
I think the move away from local multiplayer is also a deterrent for casual gamers and it's why the Wii appeals so much to the casual gaming market.

@Paddy -
That's a really good point. I think a large part of the hysteria surrounding the Wii and games like Rock Band is that it is bringing people together into a room to play a game again. As much as the industry pushes us towards online, there is no denying the appeal of gaming with a group of freinds/family in "real life". If the Wii only supported online gaming, it wouldn't have made half the impact that it did.
@InfestedDemon -
I expect choice.
I completely understand the need and appeal of online gaming and communities, but not at the expense of long-time standards of the industry. I don't know how old you are or how much of the growth of the game industry you've been around for, but from what I've seen it was local competitive gaming that made the industry explode (again). Games like Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat single-handedly brought arcades back to life, and while they were great games, the draw was (local) competitive play.
Online gaming certainly has its place and there is no denying that the PC and games like Doom brought a lot more people into gaming, but as far as consoles go, they have always been based on local multiplayer, it seems odd to be to abondon that now as they add online functionality. I mean just look at your biggest titles in the industry and tell me that they have nothing to do with local multiplayer.
Granted, games like Madden and Tiger Woods are online now, but those titles built their fanbase due to local multiplayer, and just like I don't expect them to ditch that feature anytime soon, I am surprised when a racing game does as well.
Using your rationale I guess I should expect Street Fighter 4 to be single player unless it is connected to the internet... I mean it is 2008, right?

^Most of The World is now one without choice, big companies choose for you and make you look like you have a choice in the situation and don't worry, i do know all about the games industry back when mortal kombat and that were around without the need for online, they were the GEM times for multiplayer gaming, multiplayer gaming which was ALWAYS local :thumb:
