Thats not very big... I've seen music folders in the 100's of gigs (like terra). I lost all my music 2 years ago due to hard drive failure but now a days its only (it use to be 26 or something):
14.9gb (2984songs).

//edit, aww I'd probably be to where butters is if I hadn't lost everything.

Almost 50GB - 8,500 songs.

Takes forever to backup :P

My music is probably my most prized possession. I back it up on 2 HDs incase one fails :cap:

5268 songs, 19.5gb. Just recently un-DRMd it all, so it’s now all on my Mac, it’s backup, and my Debian system.

Mine is almost 32 gb. I've got about twenty five CDs worth of MP3s sloshing around as well.

These days, though, I'm becoming a bit more choosy about what I rip. Most of what's on those CDs I haven't listened to in years.

5.3 GB :(

It used to be 35. I was formatting my machines for a reinstall and left my usb external with all my cherished music and smut backed up plugged in.

It found that volume and I blindly told it to format and install windows on that. Was the only copy of my backups by that point. That was a tough lesson to learn.

http://www.senocular.com/smilies/doh.gif That blows. There IS an app called 'recover my files' that might be able to recover them.

around 10200 songs, 50 gig. I sometimes take a kill frenzy and delete some of the music i never listen to. Luckily, i have an 80 gig iPod, so i don't need to uncheck stuff. w00t!

I just listen off the uni network, it's a neverending audio library.

Large libraries here. I got a question for you all if I may hijack this thread. Do you keep entire albums or just the songs you like? For each album I listen to, I take out the songs I don't particularly favour and shove them into an archive folder that I wouldn't even backup. The rest I put in the normal music folder.

If i had to pay for all this, i don't think i'd have Nicole Scherzinger in my library, but now i do... :mu:

I keep full albums... Who knows, maybe at some junction you'll love songs you didn't listen to before?

Templarian
02-07-2008, 05:01 PM
I keep full albums, mostly because its how I archive my music.
Artist_Name > Album_Name > #_Name

Pretty simple organization... plus theres no reason to sort music when there are playlists and nowadays hard drive space is so cheap.

//edit, now my folders 2.5gigs more.

11.1gb

I always buy whole albums (the shiny discs, not online) except for like 10 songs I like which I would never buy the entire album for because I would die from embarassment.

7 Gb at the moment. Usually stays around that from cleaning it out and adding new music.

Well it also depends on how you keep your music, what format?? FLAC or mp3? I have had times when it reached 10gig, but lost it all due to formating.

I'm a freak, my 'music folder is' 96.2GB and that's missing almost half of the albums still on cd (not converted to mp3) and I haven't even mentioned the music that's on vinyl!!. I personally have been collecting music since early 90's, lol.

You must have some long songs, cause in iTunes I have 2000 items, 4.8 days and 7.3 GB.

I just have the stuff I like in iTunes. Overall my music folder is 15.7 GB.

I buy all my music too :pleased:

His avg. song length: 4.3 minutes
Your avg. song length: 3.5 minutes
My avg. song length: 4.3 minutes

So his aren't substantially shorter than yours and are right in line with mine..

Alot depends on the genre I guess. I listen to alot of metal and most of my songs are well over 5 minutes, with many breaking 10 minutes and some 20 minutes. Then again, for certain sub-genres, songs are often under 2 minutes with the focus being on intensity for a very short amount of time. Other genres than metal have songs that can tend to be alot shorter or longer.

~Cody

btw, I bought most of my songs. Some are gifts and/or from other peoples collections. No p2p-ing or anything though.

Probaly just a higher quality. I know alot of people that won't listen to anything less than FLAC (lossless). I'm personally fine with 128 kbps mp3 (along with a sprinkling of VBR from eMusic), my headphones aren't good enough to show a very big difference anyway.

PS, I love being on a techy, nerd forum. Where else would we take the time to analyze our relative song length and file size :P

I can't even conceive going for more than a few days without music. :p Outside of my house my mp3 player never leaves my pocket (save for when I am actually using it).
