Why has no one done a Flash CS3 version of the brilliant Flex Alert class? It's invaluable in debugging applications!
For this reason I've built my own lightweight Alert class which attempts to mimic the Flex version. Its extremely easy to use and has proved extremely useful in building my Flash apps.
I hope you find it useful too:

works well but if you use a lot of text it doesnt show it all.

I've put in a limit so that the maximum vertical size of the dialog is just smaller than the height of the stage. This is so that you can still access the OK button if a lot of text is passed through.
Also this is primarily meant for debugging applications so it doesn't expect massive amounts of text anyway.
I hope it proves useful :)

@eedok
You can use it any way you want - there aren't any crediting requirements or any other requirements. I'm actually working on a much improved version of it at the moment (the current version was built solely for debug purposes) which should be available soon.
