Hi All,

This is my first post, so hello to all out there, hopefully someone may have an answer to my query regarding the spacing tool in 3dsmax?

I was just trying to arrange some dominos along a path (simple enough) and on the internet a good suggestion was to use to spacing tool, however when i made my domino and made my path/spline for the copies to follow, the spacing tool for some reason flipped the domino 90 degrees and placed it horizontally so it was basically following the path but lying face down and sideways. if i do not click the follow option in the context menu of the spacing tool then it aligns it along the path correctly as i want but obviously doesn't rotate it to follow the path. Is there something i've forgotten to do, i tried rotating the objects pivot also with no luck. why is the option for follow path changing the axis of my object to be face down as it follows the path?

I also have a few issues with bevel profile having a mind of its own, but i'll allow that for now as at least i can rotate and scale from within the modifier.

Anyhelp would be grateful!!! thanks in advance.

MaC.

If your object and path were created in different viewports then the local orientations are probably different which is why your getting the flipping.

You can rotate your initial object and the spacing instances will follow but a better solution would be to re-align the objects orientation from the hierarchy panel.

Select your dominoe turn on 'affect pivot only', then click the align tool and then your path. Uncheck everything except the three orientation checkboxes, click ok and shut off 'affect pivot only'.

Now when you apply the spacing tool they shouldn't flip anymore.

Hi Thanks for the answer,

I had a feeling the solution was related with the local orientations and found out that if i clicked on transform under the hierarchy panel with my objects axis centered how i wanted it, it worked as well, but I'll assume your way as being the correct one, as i was just clicking everything in that panel to get it to do something as its the panel relating to the orientation of the object.

Many Thanks!!!

but now under reactor using havok 3 engine, i cant seem to get the dominos to stop falling through the floor using the update max option, it works in havok 1? any ideas. havok 3 seems more responsive which is why i though it would be better.

Thanks again!
Mac.
