Hello Kirupians,
I'm in the final stages of deploying my pet-project-web-app and Im looking for some people to test it out. ( yep, that's you buddy ;) ) I still have a lot to polish off, but it's pretty well fleshed out right now. Im hoping to launch it publicly in early 2008.
It's an internet app that allows people to create interactive flash timelines which they can share elsewhere on the web.
All I ask is that you create a public timeline and give me some feedback on the usability, maybe a paragraph or so.
I have removed the site access details, thanks for your help. Version 1 should be launching pretty soon!
Cheers

Or post the link and let us mess with it for a bit?

I've amended my first post to include the site access password, I'll remove it in a couple of days.
You can find the link in my footer by the way.

It looks good, that must have been quite a job building that structure. I think the interface is going to need some work. I think it's up to you to decide who's going to be using this and how you plan to make money with it. The interface design needs to be targeted at the audience you intend to draw in. The timeline as it is right now is large and bulky, but I can imagine it being very slick with lighter colors and streamlined typography.

I was looking at the WWII timeline, and I noticed that the years are 1 off. Well, they're not if you think of the years as ranging backwards from their indication on the timeline, but that's not very intuitive. Would make more sense to have them range from the indication on to the right.
Not sure if you know what I mean, so lemme just try and show you. If the -'s are the range of the year 1942, then right now it's like this:
-------------------------1942while it would make more sense to me if it were
1942-------------------------Also, I tried to scroll the timeline to the left and right but that didn't seem to be possible; I could only zoom in. I realize that you probably made it so that all the added events fit in it, but it'd still be nice to be able to scroll for a bit.

It looks fairly nice design-wise. In some places the text feels really big and cluttered. :D

@gvozden: Yeah that sucks. There were no timeline websites when I started work on the site, and now there are 2-3 with another couple on the way. At least I've learnt never to sit on an idea anymore! (p.s. Im sure you've already seen the similie open source project btw)
@voetsjoeba: Nice catch! I think that might stem from an earlier bug that I've since had the opportunity to fix.
You can scroll the timeline, but you need to zoom in first. That way I can show all the events on a timeline when a user first loads it, but still allow people to zoom in to a particular part.
@esherido: I think that's because I've been desiging it on a nice big screen ha ha, I'll keep it in mind.
Thanks for your comments guys. I plan on developing this one iteratively, so any suggestions have a good chance of being included in future versions.

A novel idea! I think it could really use some polish design-wise, but it seems to be doing the job pretty well. One think I had problems with was the hit areas on the little time nodes. I think they are a bit small.
Look forward to seeing where this one will go!
