Don't see it till the second half is out its not worth it the movie pretty much ends part way through... the story seems like they ran out of money.
So well graphiced though, the detail is so nice on everything.
Worth seeing just wait till the second part or its not the best.
I can see why the whole churchy people wouldn't like this movie. One question who the heck picks a rat as their daemon.

The reviews on rottentomatoes were pretty bad, so I didn't see it yesterday. I heard the books are actually better, but I haven't read the books either. Like many of the movies/games I watch/play, I might sporadically see it in a few years.

The books are really really really really good. Essential reading for anyone who likes a bit of fantasy.
I haven't seen the movie yet but I plan to.

Read the book and you'd understand why.
^ I agree with you, the books are great. I'll probably see the movie next weekend if I get a chance.

I saw the movie this afternoon. Having read the books (in 3rd grade, so it's not as if I would be able to tell if the book and the movie matched scene-by-scene), I would agree that the ending was somewhat off-target, since the most climactic moment comes after the film version's credits rolled.
The part that disappointed me most was that it focused much more on the action sequences, even though they were hardly the focus of the book. My memories of the book are more about Lyra, her dæmon, and the altheiometer. I suppose that the creators thought that they could drive more people into the theaters by creating exciting battles, which is an understandable goal.
