I decided to use Illustrator and multiple shapes to color and shade my drawing (i usually use photshop paintbrush) Do the colors work?

Try following the facial planes more closely to define the volumes better. Try working with gradients to top the coloured areas looking so harsh

yeah not bad but try and blend the different tones more

so use the gradient tool or clean my lines and move them closer together to imitate a gradient?
yea my shapes are preety shloppy.

thats actually a pretty unique style. But if you are going trendy and a bit more lifelike do as others said. Other than that I rather like it.

yea my shapes are preety shloppy.
Well a gradient within each patch of colour to give it a bit more tonality.
Also, think in 3 dimensions, and allow the contours to flow with the facial plane shapes. If in doubt, run your hand along your face to figure out how far back something is in relation to something else :)
