Well I don't know if you should include this bit, it seems to be a class. You should "import" it, and then assign a variable for that class ( I think it's called SoundSpectrum). Haven't tried it, but it should work.

Thanks for all the nice replies dudes/dudettes. I added a zip file with the .fla and .as All you need to do now is change "mySong.mp3" to the path of your sound and all should work fine!

Have fun

Very interesting example, can we have something with the microphone sound instead of a song ?

I want to download the AS file but your link is incorrect, I keep getting a 404 when trying to download.

Hey Greggeh,

Maybe my current project will be of interest to you! Combined SoundSpectrum with Flint and PV3D to create some 3D / particle music visualizations. Examples:

Rectangles: http://joeltong.org/blog/flash/3dSoundSpectrum/soundSpectrum3D_4.swf
Point particles: http://joeltong.org/blog/flash/3dSoundSpectrum/soundSpectrum3D_2.swf
3D Box: http://www.joeltong.org/blog/flash/3dSoundSpectrum/soundSpectrum3D.swf

Works with any song. To play, download the SWF and place Song1.mp3 in the same directory as the SWF. Enjoy!

Code on blog: http://joeltong.org/blog/

Will be working on a class so that it can be integrated easily with music players. Please tag my blog for more info if you want to help!

Rgds,
Joel Tong
