You know you can just install Vista on it... still got the sexy imac.

1. Yes, but there are better clients.
2. Yes.

Oh... then you set on Mac... ic... you will adapt after a while, just buy it and learn as you go.

Theres a thread around for Mac tips if you search that might help.

I'm a die-hard Mac user, who's also had need of doing some work on PC recently. The biggest adaptation I had is that the PC alt key sometimes but not always serves the same function as the Mac option key. If you rely heavily on keyboard shortcuts, then that will take a bit of getting used to.

Might as well get a mac book pro - if you're going with a laptop, get a laptop.
If you're going with a desktop, get a desktop, but a laptop masquerading as a desktop (the iMac) is wackness. Nothing at all against Mac on the whole, but that's exactly what I don't get about iMacs.

Why sacrafice functionality for an all-in-one box? You could build a leet desktop PC (and go back to XP! :D) for half the price, rather than deal with laptop guts trying to be a desktop computer. Likewise, you could get a macbook pro and have a laptop that's actually portable. Pick one, don't go with some mickey-mouse halfway job.

I think having the monitor+computer in one box is a bad idea too, and I've been critical of Mac for doing that since the first Macintosh. I change my actual computer a lot more often than I go through new monitors. Likewise, if I do get a better monitor, why scrap the tower? it's silly. If you're afraid of a few wires, or such an anal-retentive neat freak that you're going to limit your computer to two wires, well, then you deserve what you get. Even a Mac Book Pro can hook up to a VGA/DVI monitor. THAT makes sense. The iMac doesn't.

I found it really hard to go from PC to mac, especially when it came to keyboard shortcuts. For instance, F9 opens the actions panel on a PC. On a mac it says it would do the same but F9 is also an action key for a change on the mac itself, so pressing it meant the volumne changing instead of the actions window opening.

Adjusted eventually, but it was frustrating at first. Back on a PC now mind you.

I'm getting sick of windows, and am currently saving for an iMac.

1. Adium??
2. Yes, if they are mac versions.
3. Depends.

I say go for it, alot of Kirupians are making the jump, and when I have enough money I will too.

I'm gonna make the jump after I get a car. I still need a box for my windows 3d gear though. HMMMM. What are parallels like with leopard?

^ currently I understand that the prime advantage to Parallel is that you can switch between OS X and Windows without having to exit one to boot the other. Maybe BootCamp has changed, though.

I'd Find it better if we didn't discuss this I think others agree we know for the most part what the regulars use around here theres no reason to talk about it specifically.

Although I'm still waiting for Vienna (i think its Windows 7). Its suppose to have some nifty OS thing like bootcamp (but im hoping for a more integrated window system).

I really like what Dan said though... does make sense after looking over it's specs.

Parallels is just fine the main advantage is drag and drop copy from XP/Vista to OSX and being able to use PC apps on your mac its a huge advantage tis like having 2 PCs in 1.

Don't try to play games on it though, if you want to play games then you must go the bootcamp route.

As for preference I prefer PC yet I own a MBP I ahve tried adapting but I just find PCs are much faster and responsive IMHO, and some of the Adobe apps outperform the OSX brothers and maya is pretty unstable on OSX :-/

@Madness yes you can run any OS on the imac with parallels, any flavor of linux or windows even server versions, parallels is a great app especially for testing purposes very good highly recommend it.

xp on mac = parallels or bootcamp

and really, if you plan to be designing a lot or editing videos, go for the mac.

found it a bit confusing the first time i used a mac, but you'll get used to it;)

Yes, I jumped to the Mac about a year ago and one of the only things it took me a while to get used to is the hotkeys, because I use hotkeys for everything, and the mouse without right click (can be avoided by using a PC mouse :D).

The other thing that I didn't really like is that using a Mac makes it harder to find specific software that you're looking for, I still have trouble sometimes, if you search in google you have to include "For Mac" otherwise you will never find what you're looking for. Now-a-days people have pretty much produced any software you can get on a PC for Mac.

-If you're looking for just Msn Messenger you can download the mac version off Msn's site.
-In my opinion all of the adoble products work flawlessly on a Mac.
-Like Templarian said, if you have any troubles with figuring out anything, just find some Mac thread or make a new one and the Kuripian Mac users will defiantly help you.
