The sturdy and light weight Asus Eee has captured the hearts and minds of US consumers, students and educators. The Eee series has all the features of its competitors, but its affordable price is turning heads. The Eee units are literally selling off the shelves world-wide.

The Asus Eee 4GB 701 series PC has made a huge hit in the USA since its launch in early November. The item literally sold off the shelves within a minute of its introductory 10,000 unit distribution. The Asus Eee 4GB with a built in web cam has a seven inch display and weighs around two pounds.

Groovy, linux for the masses.

I'd love to get one if I didn't need to game on the go..or if the XPS 1330 wasn't so damn sexy.

That laptop looks great for kids though, but the screen is so small.

8gig for $500..... 4gig is plenty for what this is designed for.

That's the way to keep it cheap. It has USB ports, get an external if you don't already have one and you're good to go. Keep in mind that these things are primarily for web use and not for gaming or design work.

Plus the fact that it is so much easier to use than a UMPC... And, it has a small footprint and is light even compared to some UMPCs...

Well, I would get an iPhone instead ;) (just kidding)

Its a good concept and I would love to get this to my parents so that they could use it to chat, browse but wouldn't install Linux, instead would opt for XP :devious:

Uh...wtf... Why would you use XP instead of the custom Xandros install? It's designed so even kids can use it....?

Whats wrong with XP :h:

Its just the choice and I do have my own copie(s) of XP which I can use.

(wtf could have been avoided, not the polite way to reply to posts)

As in... I don't understand your point of wiping the default install of Xandros and installing XP... Its not about preference here, your willing to go through all that crap just to use XP? Heh...

Or at least, just wait to the official XP ones come out soon.

I still dont get your point here....I buy the laptop, I decide to install XP or keep Xandros....why is that I have to stay with Xandros? I can even reinstall Xandros if I want....

They make it so easy to use right out of the box, that's the selling point of this machine. I just don't why you would make that much harder for yourself by not using the default linux install.... Linux doesn't bite you know.

Also...there's not much point to having XP on there, its not like this machine can even run many intensive programs like Photoshop, or games for that matter.

Not to mention, it's a handy tool for teaching yourself linux. Which, I think, is also part of the whole point. Linux is the perfect OS for a web terminal type computer, portable or otherwise. Even computer noobs can handle firefox.
