AMD Unleashes Enthusiast Gaming Performance for the Masses with ATI Radeon HD 3800 Series

AMD today announced the introduction and immediate availability of the ATI Radeon HD 3800 Series of graphics processing units (GPU). As the world’s first series of graphics processors to deliver Microsoft’s DirectX 10.1 support, 55nm process technology and tri and quad multi-GPU support with ATI CrossFireX, the ATI Radeon HD 3800 series ushers in a new era of enthusiast gaming performance at mainstream price points.

I <3 AMD, but ATI's little antics mean nothing.

 I know, it's funny watching ATI try to keep up with nVidia. "Oh! And lets slap a 10-point-1 label on it so the fact that the cards only have 256 megs won't stand out so much!"

wow... that's idiocy to say that... Its not about the # of megs... Its whether its DD3/DD2 (At least for nvidia cards, its the same for whatever ATI's version of it is) and the newer 55nm chips. Meaning, they can run faster at cooler speeds which hopefully means more overclocking..... Plus, apparently they run pretty cheap at something like $100 and $200... That's not bad.

^ I know; I was just saying it was kind of funny how they're making such a big deal about DX10.1 why the memory is small compared to nVidia. I do know about the speed advantages with 55nm chips (Along with power-saving.) and the supposed GDDR4 memory. All that for $100 or $200 is pretty good; but I expect nVidia to come out with something much better pretty soon. (GeForce 9000 line hopefully.)

Um.. again, the memory isn't that small compared to the equivalent Geforce cards lol. They preform around the same level, and the DX10.1 is just added so extra visual stuff can be shown. I mean not necessary, but still cool.

While I've always bought nVidia, save for when I bought Voodoo, I'll say if nVidia doesn't have competitors we'll all suffer when they monopolize the market.

So, some of you fools buy ATI please :D

voodoo was 3dfx and it's a shame the company went bankrupt, I loved 'em.

Their cards were ahead of their time.

Good point; I'm just looking at them from my perspective, they fall in with nVidia 8600 category in my opinion, so I look down on them with distaste. And since energy consumption isn't a big issue the new 55nm manufacturing process would only be really important if it got nVidia to release some high-speed multi-GPU cards soon.

Why would you look down on a mid-range card???? Unless your running like SLI 8800 GTX cards... these new cards are easily comparable to a 8600 GT or even a GTS as that article states... That was the point of these cards, not to compete with the higher end ones. So for the price range, the performance is quite good.

That's what I'm sayin'. The price is great, especially compared with some of the midrange Nvidia stuff. ATI cards do last, a buddy of mine is running an All-in-wonder 1800 that runs even some of the most recent DX9 games quite well, and it's 5 years old.

We'll the cards all last a while if one doesn't have to play all the new games. Heck the 6800 I've had for 4 years can run most of the DX9 games also.

Plus the nvidia card's handle physics for the newer games better than the ATI cards... but we will have to wait till Mark updates for DX10 graphics and get some nice scores to compare.

heh... those laptops will get worse battery life than my Asus G1s... that's a sad accomplishment lol.
