With school out, I was finally able to finish up my new site over the last few weeks (I'm 16).
I made a really long, winded post at Flashkit that I think scared lots of people away, so I'll just end this post right here with a link:
http://www.webfeatsdesign.com
All comments/criticisms/suggestions/compliments/whatevers are appreciated!
Also -- here are links to some other site check threads if y'all wanna know what they thought :) (you can read the FK thread to get my full huge post with bug lists 'n all if you want).

You must be running a popup blocker :)
It pops up a big window with no toolbars that has the site in it. Popups are the only way I've found to get a window with no toolbars.
You can access the site directly at http://www.webfeatsdesign.com/wf4/flash2.html if you're one of those religious no-popups people :)

(I was the guy that told you about the grammar error.. then it turned out you were right) :) But anyway, this is a revolutionary website, like 2Advanced.
1) Lo-fi is the same as Hi-fi.
2) Just stick your old intro in place of this new one. The old one rocked.

okay, i looked at the source code, and found the page. i really like the transitions alot, they are smooth and never get boring. the site overall is really clean and smooth, it looks mighty professional. one thing that stuck out though is the brightness. i mean, theres quite a bit of white. thats not a bad thing, and i saw the color selector thing at the bottom, but maybe a colored background or something. overall i was really impressed with the site, and welcome to the forums. we hope you enjoy your stay.=)

k first off WOW. The site is amazing.
The options to get into the site where cool but might get anyoing to some ppl(have to click 3-4 times to enter is kind of a drag some times) but the menus that provided the options where cool.
The animations are WOW but some got a little long when it came to the transitons. They are very smooth and very creative and very well done.
I didnt' like how the sound controls opend in the middle of the screen. I was expecting them to open near the button and when they didnt' i thoguth they didint' work. Then when i came back to the contnet I noticed them there.
The images in the bg where a little basic and kind of didnt seem to fit in some cases. I dont' know putting some big fancy Photoshop work there wouldnt fit rihgt either so maybe this is the best choice. I liked the option to pick the tint color.
All and al lthis site is amazing. I dont' know why i'm even giving my opion on it when i have never built anything that compares to this. again this is a very WOW site :A+: :thumb:

thats amazing! the only critisism i can come up with is that it takes a lot of clicks to actually get into the site. Other than that - VERY nice work :-)
Polkiousness
July 10th, 2003, 12:02 PM
Yes, it does take a lot of clicks -- hence the "quick enter" button I added after the FK thread (below the yes/no to broadband selector).
Supree -- there is no intro yet, so how can I replace "this new one" with "the old one"? :p And lo-fi should trigger lower quality sounds... I guess I haven't acually tested it, lol, so I'll go look into that.
itworks -- Sorry, forgot about the thread at your forums! Please forgive me :)
Thanks all :)

July 10th, 2003, 12:34 PM
Oh, I didn't notice the low quality sounds, even though they were there. Don't "replace;" "put in" your old intro. Something is better than nothing. And your old "4 i's" movie rocked.

Ok, I can add links to the old v1 and v2 intros, as well as the unfinished v3 intro...

Agreed, very amazing, the fast paces and smooth transitions did it for me, I loved it. I wonder what FPS you used, that font is also a pretty sweet font, when your intro is complete you should submit it for site of the week and me and the other moderators will vote on it.
Again, great job!
Polkiousness
July 10th, 2003, 02:35 PM
Uh, I already submitted it... is it not complete enough because it has no intro?
The intro could be a while, I'm rather busy at the moment.

July 10th, 2003, 02:44 PM
You do not have to have an intro, most of the sites submitted do not have one either. This week you are against flashlevel ( www.flashlevel.com ) in the race for site of the week. Good luck, I love your site!

i wouldn't bother too much about Flashlevel's site because if the moderators follow the rules it won't be classified... it's not 90% Flash, in fact only the navigation is in flash. the site is very good, not Flashlevel's best but it's good only it's not a flash site :geek:

Yeah, I know -- it makes me sad that THAT GUY is preventing me from having my optimal domain name :D
He's actually still active, though, so I can't just ask him to sell me the domain... at least I heavily doubt I could. I actually spent a while on that site once reading about the lawsuit he was involved in. Run a search for "webfeats" and you'll mainly find links back to www.webfeats.com and stuff involving the Taubman suit.
www.webfeats.net is also a beautiful site showcasing the extreme versatility and motion capabilities of Flash [/sarcasm]... especially with the enter button you have to zoom in and drag down to see!
Anyway, I doubt people will be confusing www.webfeats.com or www.webfeats.net with good ol' www.webfeatsdesign.com :D

Yes those intros are amazing!!! Like the music to it too!

But everything else is good! I usually like loading bars which tell percentages because your pages are pretty large and take quite a bit of time for me to load (i'm on broadband). But everything else is smooooth!
oh yea, is it running on 63 fps?! like it says under your name :)

Would a button that launches a popup get around blockers any more effectively than an auto-popup? Don't blockers just block 'em all?
lu31
July 15th, 2003, 02:56 PM
Nope, if I am correct I think some blockers only act on no-load pop up and flash pop up. Try, it may better.

Regarding the music selector while in the portfolio section --
Thanks for reminding me of that! My choices are not easy on that one... I think my best choice might be to just unload any loaded portfolio section when you hit the music selector. I'll try to get around to fixing it soon.
Thanks for the comments, all.

I know, I know, shame on me for bumping my own thread, but I thought I'd let some people know I finally broke down and actually added percent loaders to the bigger loading sequences -- after you set your bandwidth/intro prefs and go into the main site, as well as when you load a main subsection.
That was one thing the Kirupa people complained about in the SOTW feedback.

I don't get it. So you're saying that when I view my SWFs raw, it will actually play at half the speed in IE? Weird. See, I can't really test this out myself, because my computer is 7 years old and it is always slow.
Polkiousness
July 24th, 2003, 02:17 PM
The Flash 6 player for IE for Windows is an ActiveX controller, and it is filled with framerate bugs very similar to what used to plague the Mac player. To get 60 fps, you must export at 63. To get 30, you must export at 33. If you export at 60, 61, or 62, Windows IE will spit it back at 38-40. If you export at 30, 31, or 32, WinIE will spit it back at 24-26. I verified it all with a framerate tester after I noticed the pitiful speed my 60 fps movies were playing at.
This problem does not exist in Netscape, the standalone player, on the Mac, or in any alternate browser or any older versions of the Flash player... only the Flash Player 6 for Windows IE, which is 90%+ of people, says me.
I have notified Macromedia of this repeatedly. They don't ever respond. :(
There's a huge, old thread over at FK on this (which I found while doing my investigations) if you want to do a search and check it out.

When a real camera record something, it will automatically record skipped frames (with motion blur, the image is not perfectly sharp in movies, just use the pause button on a player).
A computer to do not calculate all the frames, nor implement blurred images. So in a movie an eye cannot see further than 30 fps but in a video game (for example), some people can see a difference up to 200 fps.
Related article: http://amo.net/NT/02-21-01FPS.html
Related google search: google search (http://www.google.fr/search?q=human+eye+frames+per+second&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&hl=fr&meta=)
PS: if you do not use a refresh rate enhancer for windows XP nor manually increase refresh rate (the default setting is 60Hz), I urge you to download one. Now that I am used with it, I cannot stand 60 Hz refresh rate on monitors, and I really feel that games are choppy when fps go under 80.

And telekinesis -- I've been monitoring that thread; it's one of very many. I could link to all my "cool sites" forum listings since I released this site if you want, lol :)
Both WebFeats and Listen Up have made their way into the French and German communities too, and it's hilarious running their threads through Babelfish. I'm still waiting for someone to post me at Flashkit though, hehe. Someone did at Ultrashock, but the thread died like a week ago. Listen Up is still on the first page of the bomb shock forum though.
I was posted for the second time at www.newstoday.com earlier this afternoon, which generates about 400 hits in 2 hours but then doesn't contribute moch anymore. This thread generates a lot of hits too :)
I have a couple projects I'm working on that should be viewable in around a month (maybe longer, depends). I'm so happy to finally be getting some attention for all this Flash :)
And BlueTrin -- good explanation. And I agree the 60Hz is bad news, really hurts my eyes... anything under 75 does.
