I want to know is there is any difference from using MacOS leopard, Windows vista or any version of Linux, for autodesk Maya. Does it run faster in any of these or it's just a myth?

myth, it depends on supporting components not so much the OS.

If you suck on a MAC, you will suck on a PC

if you use studio max then the plugins work much easier with windows and in my experience it works faster. and you have 3 button control of the viewports. If you use it in a studio its alot easier to render it on a network with a pcwindows. But I prefer pcs and only use a mac if I really really have to. But the performance will really be down to hard ware and new drivers.

@ Ineedsleep I dont actually think you can get 3ds max for mac?

I think as long as your system has got the right spec you should be fine on either .. you might need to buy a 3 button mouse if ur on mac tho ;)

^lol I know quite a few mac users none of them use the mice they all use random logitechs very few use the mouse that the computer comes with.

Its always nice to set up a network, when i was younger i had one set up helped a lot even for quick previews (just use the various computers in ur house) hardware's the only real bottle neck graphics/processor/ram.

Myth!

We use Mac, linux and windows boxes effortlessly in our pipeline at work :)

Maya with linux is more stable however you're bound to run into a few (usual) kinks, finding proper video drivers so that the opengl runs smoothly, maybe setting up proper folder permissions and whatnots... I have no idea how MacOS handles maya.

As dark pointed out, maya runs on a large panel of operating systems, which is one of the reasons why it's still that popular nowadays in large productions.

What do you mean it's more stable?

I mean try doing long & extensive modeling for several hours to lose your work to some dang windowsXP error and you'll be desperate for a 'perfect' OS.

Still, maya is more than good on any OS (there's a reason why max has an autosave feature and maya doesn't :beam:)

Agreed. The number of times windows has snapped in half baking out heavy scenes in this last week at work has been painful.

And actually- I'm not 100% sure about it, but there is an incremental save feature in maya 8 +

^ there is, under save options.

I've had issues with vista and Maya. In particular with my nvidia 8800.

We run all our machines on win 2k and xp now. We used to think xp was a pain to use, but it runs as smooth as a baby's butt on xp compared to vista's whinging errors.
