I re-registered with the name David the other day, but cannot post using that username.. I can log in but cant post or PM anybody.. Have i been banned or something?

not at all. That has been happenign to a few people lately. Try clearing your history, clearing your cookies, clearing your temp internet files, and then restarting your computer. That should help.

also, you don't need to re-register. Just ask a mod to change your name.

try taking out your HD, running it under HOT water, with lots of soap and a real abrasive scrubber....

then don't dry it off, and reinstall it.

reboot your computer, and that should give you a real nice display of smoke and smells...

Seriously though, can you or Jubba merge Daveman and David into 1 then.

'David' ID should work after checking your activation message in your email, just click the link, and it will be enabled again.

However, we can't merge IDs together, not sure if kirupa can, but certainly not. If you want to switch the names Daveman into David, and David into Daveman, then leave a message, and am sure one of the fellow mods will switch the names.
