Hello fellow assassins! I feel as though ppl on this site gives it little respect though they agree its going to be good. I want to here how dedicated to it are you, how big of a fanboy are you, and how much you actually know about it. If you want to get more knowledgable check out http://www.assassinscreed.com or if you are a fanboy and want to join the official site check out http://www.1191ad.com. Choose you city (I recomend Damascus or Jerusalem (I'm with J-town) and start your official career as an Hashshasheen.

The only game I have really ever obsessed about was Half-life 2. The only reason behind this was because of all of the hype, the projected release dates, the missed release dates, the whole domino effect of anticipation is what made me obsess. As far as this game goes... I don't know or see why you would be so obsessed with it. Nothing ground breaking, just another good game. Now, I'm not bashing this game at all. All of the demos, the coverage, etc... is awesome. I just don't see the point in obsessing over something that you can't really be sure is going to be a golden ticket.

Visually it looks awesome, the story is decent. I will get the game, I will play it, I will probably really enjoy it. As far as being such a fanboy and giving it so much respect...nah, not for me.

Games looking really good, I'm anxious to experience using the horse. Last time I use a horse in a game was 'Shadow of the Colossus' and I absolutely loved that game. I like the fact that this game is play at your own pace, I personally like stealth games like the original 'Tenchu' and Splinter cell's, where i don't have to always play to a timer to complete a objective. Also i can complete that objective in the way i choose to. And another thing, the chick that developed this game is pretty sexy!!!!:lol:

I'm anxiously awaiting playing the game, but from the hands-on reports I have read, it's not the life altering experience a lot of people are making it out to be. According to most of the people that have it now it is a great game, but a one trick pony that begins to get very boring/repeditive after a few levels.

The professional reviews of it have all been outstanding (9+ out of 10 in most cases), but all of them have made mention of how little the game really offers in terms of gameplay variety. They all seem to like the game, but not one reviewer has gushed about it in any way. I saw way more excitement from them after playing Bioshock then AC.

I'm a little confused about the release date personally, most websites and gamestop claim it ships on the 13th, which means some stores will have it that day, but the actual AC site claims the 14th, as does the tv commercial. (US dates, UK has a different release). Apart from that, there have been reports of some stores already having it and breaking the release date...

well if you havent noticed that they just got to play a tiny 10 min segment(Game Informer for instance) of the game about halfway into it. Plus at E3 '06 ppl saw a short clip and dismissed it as failure. ppl saw a short demo that reveiwers used(check youtube or yahoo videos for the video of it) and that offered only a single aproach of the gameplay. Plus the hype they tried to generate for it was basic. It comprised of a website, official fansite and maybe a commercial or two on a few websites. the biggest thing they did was throw some commercials in during the new southpark episode the week before release( which by the way is 13th for UK districts and 14th for the rest of the world..... gotta have loyalty huh?) Just sit down and rent the game then critisize it unbiasedly. I also heard(from a very good source) that this game is a part of a trilogy. Its unknown yet what the sci-fi twist has a role in the present and future titles.

Actually, the reviews I was talking about were of the finished game. I have read around 3 or 4 pro reviews, and a dozen from gamers that have or have played the full version. (It started showing up for download on Usenet several days ago.)
Everyone has unanimously come back with the same arguments:
1.) It is kind of short. Supposedly clocks in at like 10-12 hours. Which to me is acceptable, but some people are complaining...
2.) It’s very repetitious. Evidently there really are not all that many ways to handle most situations and it essentially just boils down to choosing one or two different paths to get to the end result, which is of course to kill a guy.
3.) The gameplay mechanics are quite shallow and don't offer much in the way of combat. Apparently there is almost no variety in how you dispatch the target of each "level", and once you get the hang of the fighting engine it boils down to waiting for a line of attackers to come at you(one at a time), then hitting the one attack button at the right moment to reverse their attack and kill them.
4.) The enemy AI sucks. I haven't seen any pro-reviews mention this, but the gamers seem to think so.

Don't get me wrong; the reviews of it are all 8+ that I have seen, so it definitely falls into a "buy it" category for me. (I'm a graphics wh0re, so I’ll buy anything this pretty anyways) I'm just pointing out that not everyone is all that thrilled with it, it’s not really as "next-gen" as the hype would have you believe and it can get very repetitious.

That said, I've already tried to buy it today with no luck, and I'll keep looking till I find it, but I'm a game nut, I buy everything; the teenage kid who can only buy one game all season might want to hold out for something a little more in-depth with a bit more replay ability.

As for the release date, the AC website claims the 14th for the US, all major US retailers claim it shipped on the 13th, which means some will have it in store today, some won’t.
My local FYE said they are putting it on the shelves when they get it, which they expect to be sometime this afternoon. (13th)
As for the UK, from what I’ve read its release there is the 16th.

As for this developer...eh..Shes cute, and definitely better looking then most developers I know, but nothing I'd get excited about... I wonder how she feels about that picture being plastered all over the net, I have seen it on at least 4 forums now...

That was my main concern when I first saw the E3 vid I noticed the enemies were actually waiting for you to finish fighting each opponent so its like having 10 guys and fighting them 1 by 1 WTF, what kind of honorous bad guys are these that they actually wait for you to finish fighting.

Next gen is 10 guys all fighting you at once and u running and freerunning like a b!#&* to survive that and the floating dead guy made me laugh.

But yeah I will most definitely get this game soon  I'm more interested in hearing about Mass Effect anyone get that?

Noct

Yeah, actually, more reviews have come in since, and some of them are not great.
Well, not great versus the expectations anyways...

IGN gives it a 7.7, claiming horrible AI, terrible story, boring repeditive gameplay involving far too much sitting and listening to people talk, and watching extremely drawn out cutscenes with bad voice acting.

On the other hand they claim to love the fighting engine and saythe game clocks in at almost 20 hours if you play through just the main quest, so I don't know who's right on that one.

Gamespot on the other hand gives it a 9.0, and says the story is wonderfull...

So, who knows what to think at this point, I have seen several sites panning it, and a few giving it nearly perfect 10s. The really wierd thing is that I've seen some sites say that the Ps3 version runs smoother then the 360, and I've seen others say that the Ps3 version is inferior... Heh, I don't own a PS3, so it's no concern to me, I just think the contradicting reports are odd.

Oh well, a bit dissapointing to say the least, but I'll personally buy it anyway...
Mass Effect looks interesting, but I want a full review of Kane and Lynch. That sounds fun.

yah i guess your right at that point but i think you (ppl in general) should go out and rent it before you listen to the mags cuz alot of games are based on preference and while you might think the game sucks i might like it or vise-versa..... i just wanted to see what most ppl thought about it. funny how this game got mixed reveiws like that..... that just furthers the preference reference (huh that rymes):trout:

No doubt about that, I disagree all the time with major reviewers. I think they tend to be a bit too hard on most titles, but again, it's usually just one guy’s opinion. Conan for instance did not get great reviews, and I had a blast playing that game. Enter the Matrix comes to mind too, that got panned by critics, and that is one of my favorite games of all time. Granted, I can't argue that it doesn't have flaws, but I had more fun playing it then most of the games rated much higher then it.

Besides, it’s not like AC is getting 5s, its getting high scores everywhere. A 7.7 should certainly not deter someone from playing a game, that’s a great score. I'm just a little disappointed because I bought into some of the hype of this title. I kind of expected that it really might be the "next-gen" experience I was after. Apparently it's not, but it's still a solid game in most people's opinions. Kane and Lynch on the other hand is getting even worse reviews, which is equally as disappointing, that game had promise too...

I would wager the timing has a lot to do with the scoring too; this year has seen some of the best titles released in a long time... GH3, CoD4, Bioshock, Halo 3, and Super Mario Galaxy all came out this year and are all in contention for GOTY. I think we're all a little jaded after these titles and expecting perfection everywhere...

Oh, and btw, I don't know for sure, but I have seen elsewhere that this Jade "chick" isn't even a developer. Apparently she is some sort of mid level manager that they have been just using as a spokesperson because they knew adolescent gamers and lonely guys would eat it up. She had nothing to do with the actual production from what I've read. But, this is all just net gossip, so who knows for sure. I just think it's interesting that she’s because pseudo-famous over this when she may not have had anything to do with the game...

Delayed in auz:(

Due to manufacturing and freight difficulties during this time of year, Ubisoft was unable to effect delivery in time for the scheduled release on this Friday 16th of November.

The new street date for Assassin's Creed on both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 will be Wednesday 21st November.

Ubsioft sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this delay has caused.:(

Well, I'm not going to do a full-on review here, but I bought the game yesterday, and the reviewers panning it are out of thier minds...

It has a few minor issues no doubt, but its an absolutely blast to play, and one of the best games I have played on the 360 yet. The AI does leave a little bit to be desired, the combat is a little too easy, and there is not a whole lot to do in the game ouside of the main objectives, but the missions themselves are awesome, the control is spot on, the graphics simply amazing, and every minute of the game is a treat to play.

I wish I was home right now so I could play it more; Outstading game.

Got the game and havent cracked the seal yet. Been too busy. But I plan on playing it today after work. Better be good, I opted for this over COD4. I got the new wresting for wii too. My wii bever ceases to amaze me, Nintendo has their heads on straight.

Noct
November 15th, 2007, 01:16 PM
Well, it's better then good, it's great, but I'm not sure I would have picked it over CoD4, thats a really tough call... It will last a lot longer then CoD4 that's for sure, and its equally as amazing to look at, but if you're a multiplayer, CoD4 probably has a lot more replayability. (I personally prefer SP games)

The amount of quality games released this month is just amazing. Three games in two weeks that are 9+ out of ten. Those two and Mario Galaxy which is also just fantastic. Best game on the Wii yet, hands down.

AC looks bad?
Umm, ok... It looks pretty good from where I'm sitting.
If you're talking the gameplay itself, and not really how it "looks", the worst review of it I've seen was a 7.7 (out of 10), and that one seemed overtly harsh to me.
It's not GOTY, thats going to go to Halo 3, Bioshock, CoD4, Mario Galaxy, or possibly Mass Effect if that lives up to its hype, but it is still an outstanding game in its own right. Definately a must-play if not a must-own.

Well, assuming you like action titles of course...

yah, i mean dont give me wrong, im not saying anything bad about gameplay, graphics, etc. I just don't think the concept of the whole thing is good. like the plot and all that

Noct
November 16th, 2007, 10:42 AM
Well, everyone is entitled to thier own opinion of course, but the story is one of the strongest points of AC. I generally skip a lot of cut-scenes and story elements in most games, and this is one of the few that has actually held my interest. (It goes a lot deeper then a killer in the dark ages you realize...) This has one of the best explanations of why you have an on-screen HUD of any game to date.

Besides, are you honestly saying you would ignore a game with amazing "gameplay, graphics, etc" just because you didn't care for the plot?
That seems odd to me... I have absolutely no interest in Pirates, but I still played the Sid Meier game, and thank god I did, its one of my favorite games ever.

nimja1
November 16th, 2007, 11:04 AM
well i can see where the "mixing it up" factor is a little stale but the storyline is great..... one thing you said bothered me though Noct, The AI. i see where ur getting at when it comes to battle and sometimes the ai is lacking when you stealth kill and they see you immeadiatly walking away or when you disappear, they come looking for you and then you jump out of your hiding spot and thier still there but they dont react........ wait aminute im contradicting myself! The ai is lacking a bit but how many games have the ai been perfect to the point of complete satisfaction? you gotta admit though this game kicks *** and its storyline is so.... so..... mind-bending! all in all Im glad i got this game. its gonna take forever to get all the flags without the book.... which i have heaven only knows but im not going to use it

oh yah and jade raymond is the producer

Noct
November 16th, 2007, 02:53 PM
Yeah, so essentially shes somewhere in the middle between a manager and a personal assistant, my point exactly. I don't consider the guy who sells me a game at EB to be part of the development process and I don't think she is either. I just think its pretty interesting and mildly amusing that ubisoft has had her at all thier press confrences talking about the game like she had anything to do with it apart from some basic project managment.

I'm in software development, and I can honestly say that my Project manager has absolutely no idea how to develop anything. She's lucky she can operate excel much less read a line of code or draw a concept sketch... Of course if she looked more like Jade and a little less like Bea Arthur maybe we'd use her in our advertising, who knows...

Anyways, you'll certainly get no argument from me that its an excellent game, and I was clearly skeptical going in. The AI doesn't bother me all that much in the sense that they don't seem to catch on to the same hiding spot or recognize you, that I can forgive. My biggest problem is that they are just FAR too easy to beat in a fight. This entire games premise is that you have to blend in with the crowd, but then it doesn't really matter if you don't because it is so hard to lose a fight with the gaurds anyway. I have died twice in this entire game so far, and both times were from jumping/falling too far. I have taken on over a dozen gaurds at once without taking a hit on multiple occasions. A little more damage on their attacks might have helped a little too... I don't really dig that I can counter-kill them in one hit, but they have to hit me 10 times to get me even close to "death". They die from absurdly low falls too...

Regardless, I'm not trying to bash the game, its outstanding, and one of those titles I'll be talking about and waiting for a sequel to for years to come...
I just hope they tie up the AI issues before the next one, add some more interactivity to the world, and give you somemore options in battle/assassinations.
