Has anyone ever thought of putting together a small mock project to showcase developers different approaches to application design?

Is there a site that does this already? If not, what sort of format would work best to facilitate this type of learning? I was thinking the following ...

The project would span 3-4 weeks, and the developer would be provided with a set of interface elements to work with. The project would be divided up into various stages, and each stage would be open to discussion.

The scope of the projects would be rather simple, to maybe difficult. What do you think? The most active members of the completed project would discuss the next project's scope of work ... thus eliminating people from submitting their own exisiting projects.

What do you think? Would there be people onboard for developing this sort of resource?

i wouldnt mind getting a design and developing around it to show how my workflow is. that's essentially what i do on my dev blog at evolve.reintroducing.com anyway, would be kinda fun and also to see how others approach the same problems.
