<b>Subject:</b> "Legend of Kirupa: The RPG". <b>Please make sure your entry reflects this theme in some way, and is also in the anime / manga style.</b>

<b>Who:</b> JerethMiller, Kitiara, Asphaltcowboy, Ralle, FAP, VisualAid, Ribcage... Anyone else who wants to join is more than welcome.

<b>When:</b> 30th July 2003 (if this is alright with everyone?)

<b>Extra Rules:</b> To be drawn in a manga / anime style, though does not have to be coloured if you don't want.

yeah, kit - you might want to re-word the rules a bit - unless we ditched the whole medieval/fantasy thing. (Yes, I know it says 'Legend of Kirupa' - but it could be a modern-day legend ;))

Well... I don't think it has to be medieval as such. The FF games have elements of just about everything - magic, swords, guns, mechs, the lot.

But yes, definitely a fantasy style. :)

I did mine by tracing a previous drawing in Flash (Just like the tutorial I read at a www.nowingsnohalo.co.uk :P). I wish to taunt others to submit theirs already. Kit I think July 30 is too far away! :-\

Right, in response to a few questions I've been asked, I've highlighted some elements of the rules that everyone needs to remember.

The theme is "Legend of Kirupa - The RPG", so your entry will have to reflect this in some way. Members as heroes, mods as monsters... Whatever you like. :) As long as there's some connection. :)

So "Sir Phil Jayhan the Knight, slayer of Spam", maybe. :)

The previous drawing is not a knight mind you. He is a barbarian with complete armor. The only thing he's hoping is to replace his helm with a wing helm, more powerful than his current one! ;)

July 30th is a good deadline for me. Since I'm fairly new here and this is my first battle, I didn't see this topic until just now. So I'm having a late start on my picture. But the deadline leaves me plenty of time.

BTW, can our picture be a PNG file?

Well my mistake she didn't... But you knw I think it's best that you save it in JPG of GIF formats just to be safe.... Not all browsers support PNG. :-/

It doesn't matter what format the file starts out as, you can make it however you want. As long as there's a web viewable version for the final entry. :)

hi :)

1) personally, I drew out my character in pencil and then inked him in photoshop. Im not sure you could get away with a pencil drawing that's just been "touched up"

2) Yes, RPG is role-playing game. It's not limited to Kirupa himself - it can be based on anyone on the forums. but they have to be kirupa-related.. if you see what I mean :)

Like my entry, it's based on Kitiara a kirupa.com moderator. Your drawing have to be base on people or anithing that is connected with kirupa.com thus kirupa-related! :)

You can have a background if you want it, but it's not required. You can have characters, but they're not required. :)

Basically, it's however you interpret the theme. :)

Just picked up a copy of "Even a Monkey Can Draw Magna 1" this weekend. It really doesn't focus as much on technique, but it was a very funny, if not completely too honest look at various types of Magna.

One thing I found that really helped out of that book was the panel that they talk about figure drawing, and that pretty much any pose you would ever need to know about has already been drawn. Find a source and use it as reference if you can't draw bodies.

As long as it's in anime/manga style, I think it's all out. Kitara even mentioned something earlier about just doing a background.

PS-I work in a marketing department developing games and interactive CDRoms. It's hard not to go all-out.

well.. backgrounds are fine.. since they're part of 'an image' - you seem to be missing the point of the battle.. it is to create a character for an rpg.. and put them in an image (be it a white background, or some elaborately detailed battle scene with thousands of troops. at no point has anyone asked for "a full product, box art, screen shots of gameplay and/or menus, etc" - how are people going to judge your work against others? They'll either think: 'wow, this guy has done LOADS of work!' and vote for you.. or the more observant will think: 'wow, this guy has done LOADS of work! But it's not what was asked for..' and hence will not vote for you. It just wouldn't be fair to ask people to pick imo.. well.. I'd hope that most people would recognise the fact that you didnt do what was asked... :sigh:

if you want to do a big marketing campaign battle using this same theme - go and set it up - this is not the same battle, nor should it encompass 'a big marketing campaign'.

It's a difficult call. Branding etc was never mentioned in the original ideas, it was more about drawing a vector / line art based image around an RPG theme...

Actually, I didn't try to learn it all that much and I can't construct sentences but I can actually understand some basic sentences without trying to translate - guess it all sunk in :beam:. I was focussed more upon the anime... *brags a bit more to pass time ;)* man I was knackered after that.
