Hey,
I am on the hunt for a new car--the 88 Pontiac just aint doing in for me any more!!
Any suggestions. I am looking for 95-96 and newer and I am not looking to spend tons of money. No specific kind. I went looking for hours yesterday and found a few.
My favorite so far, 96 Pontiac Sunfire convertible but it is a standard, I think I may have to learn soon,a ll the cars I liked were standards and I onoly know how to drive an automatic.
Anyways, anyone ahve any suggestions???:)

I would say go with one of the throw away Kia's you looked at yesterday with the low miles.
With a budget of 3K your probably not going to find much better than that.

kia's are evil and i wouldn't drive one if you paid me. They are cheaply produced, uneconomic and very unreliable.

well, I could go up to 5K but that means I am borrowing cash! I like small cars, would rather a sporty one but I am probably not going to be able to afford it.
Dream car would be any of the firebird convertibles(red with a black top) I saw last night or a mercedes clk430 convertible (silver)!

anyways, as for you money situation rere, not much is gonna help unless you are willing to wait ages and save or get yourself into (further?) debt. Perhaps you could sell some body parts? (not necisarly your own - heh heh)

If you don't mind driving a standard in traffic, then I would go with the little sunfire. =) Also make sure to pick up a local paper and go through the classified ads. There are some great deals to be had from privite sellers. =)

Small (good for finding parking places in town), fast ('cause it's fun and you won't have to get pushed by the big cars), small engine ('cause of the gas costs). What more do you need?

The Evo is not worth the money, would rather save up 10K more and get a Corvette or a Ford Lightning. It is like paying for a lancer with $25,000 worth of upgrades, do you really think the interior. body kit, and engine upgrades costed anywhere near the tag on that car.
I am a truck person, Ford Lightning to be exact!

Buy a karman ghia, because:
1) On your budget - you can afford it
2) They look really cool
3) They are very cheap and easy to maintain
4) Just look at it - how cool is that?
5) They drive beautifully
6) They are funkier than a mosquitoe's tweeter
7) They don't use much fuel

I rest my case.

what urban said or get a 1976 volkswagen beetle they run on very low fuel, and they dont overheat :beam: or just get a car you can afford all you need is a ride so just get whatever gets the job done then work your way up later on, and learn to drive a standard car its very fun and its a faster car, cheaper and breaks less than an automatic and is cheaper to fix, oh and if it wont tunr on you can always push it and pop out the clutch and turn it on lol ;)
Once you go standard you wont go back to automatic unless your old or lazy :P

you can make top dollar selling your plasma to blood banks and what have you. also, i hear they give $50,000 if you donate a testicle!
i really love the mustang that i drive...but i think a 96 honda or toyota would prolly be in your budget and very dependable.

As long as you don't buy a mitsubishi, you'll do fine.
Here's some nice cars in the boston area I found on e-bay that don't seem to be too expensive. They're mostly at the top of your price range, but they seem to be very nice cars that're worth much more than they're being sold for.
car 1 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2421607579&category=5336)
car 2 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2421601838&category=6236)
car 3 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2422106262&category=6337)
car 4 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2421523452&category=5332)
car 5 (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2422947007&category=6212)
Ok, the last one might be kinda expensive, but it's worth it. And I'm sure if you bought it, Rev or Dan or one of the other west coast kirupians would be happy to drive it over to Boston for you.

Well, I think it's a typical "mum car", you know? It's like a Renault Espace, only not that big. And the back seats can be removed, and they can slide, and blah, blahblah... The trunk is huge for the dog and all the shopping mums do. It has those small "cupboards" everywhere for all the crap mums carry all the time: under the seats, under your feet, above your head, in the doors. :)
But OK, I admit it looks "mummy-ish". Kitt is waaaay cooler!
TheOrangeOne

heh, i guess a "daddy-ish" car will have beer holders, the floor will be a giant trash can, and it will have to kind of looks that say "get the fudge out of my way"

Hey if you got the Gs then I recommend a vx220. But if you REALLY got the GGGs, Then I recommend a Mclarren. That way when you figured in an accident you don't feel pain and die directly and you can be assured that your car would not land on somebody elses garage because it'd be total wrecked. Those cars are designed that way! :P
Kitiara
July 9th, 2003, 06:01 AM
The McLaren F1? :P
VX220 you can pick up for around 17 - 18 grand which is reasonable. An Evo is more in the region of 25 - 30K. But since the VX is based on the Elise anyway, it's a good, fast little car. :)
Plus I've seen one in a dealership which had the Austin Powers Union flag paint job on it. Soooo cool.

July 9th, 2003, 06:15 AM
Yeah, I love the Evo as well. Much better than the Nissan Skyline!
I liked the Mitsubishi Galant too when it came out. And their 4x4 vehicles are superb!
Anyway, on the other hand, I've always been a sucker for Italians. Ferrari 360 Modena, Spider, F1... *drool*

If you don't want a fast car but still has the Gs... why not buy a New Volkswagen Beettle? It's cute and fully loaded. Also it's a car with a very unique design just like its old predecessor. You go look around the street a you see a car....exactly a car... that looks the same way.. (like a van should look like a van ....) the beetle is way different and cute to boot! :P
Kajinku

Yeah, it's cute. So don't buy it. :P j/k

I think the turbo charger on the EVO VII rotates at quite a higher RPM then normal turbos do. Which is why it tends to make so much noise. Although I heard it was really expensive if you need to replace it. Having owned a Mitsu Eclipse (Turbo) and after all the problems I had with that car (including having to replace the T25 turbo >:( , I went with the WRX STi when I got rid of it. I looked at the EVO VII, but I got a much better deal on the Scoob, and it is just as quick. Oh, and with the STi exhaust the Scoob sounds pretty aggressive when the turbo spools up. ;) I installed the GFB Hybred blow off valve this weekend, and the improvement in throttle responce is amazing! No more turbo lag at low pressures. :)
Cheers!

Is yours an import or the English edition?
I've got one friend with the Sti and one with the plain WRX, and the Sti is so much better... He's got the Prodrive Performance Pack on as well, so the bhp is even higher. :)
Great cars, though the Evo is that little bit more expensive.

July 9th, 2003, 11:27 AM
Mine is the US edition. Although this year in the US they changed the STi a bit... went from 2.0L to 2.5L, different body kit, (I like the old one better) and a 6speed. (mine is the 5speed) I suppose I should have waited a year. :( Either way I am still pleased with mine. =)
