Here's a project I've been working on whenever I had some spare time for the past 6 months.

There's still much left to do, but tell me what you think so far.

Controls are:

Up: Look Up
Down: Crouch, Roll While Moving
Left: Walk/Run Left, Break While Running Right
Right: Walk/Run Right, Break While Running Left
Space: Jump
Down + Space: Charge
Down + Space ... Release Space: Launch

Always open to suggestions and feedback. Also, looking for someone to help with level design, contact if interested.

looks pretty slick to me! the rings/time/score doesn't change though, but you might already know that. It'll be fun to se some levels! :)

however I always wanted to know how do people get the sprites out of the game?

I ripped them from the rom files (if you don't know, rom files are sega genesis games that can be played in an emulator).

So all you ripped was the images? If so, awesome! Are you trying to make a new sonic or something? Honestly, that would be great. I miss playing this game and so far, from what I've seen, you're definitely on the right track.

Let me know when you have some levels done!

whooo, I like the rollovers on the right side...not the original button, but when it's rolled over, it's smooth. I like smooth.

when I clicked one of those buttons I was sent to a page with some kind of generator thing. I didn't really use it though. Might be something to do with the layout seemed like a lot of work to create something (that I don't understand).

but the rollover was smooooooth :)

Yeah that's the editor (still in alpha stage). I'm going to write up a helpdoc soon enough though for users interested in creating levels. And tooltips will help.

I'm just stuck with a little problem at the moment, one of the components used in the editor seem to break encapsulation and apply a "_searchKey" numeric property to every movieclip on the stage, which really interferes with the engine at work, and also wastes memory. You'd think Adobe would have the sense to encapsulate their classes.
