I like the design. 2 things though:

make the background something. relate it back to your design, white bg and that green bar at the bottom, just makes the whole thing look messy and unrelated.

the content under the news section on the left, I would change the fonts to match your design style a little more, those 3 white news titles are hard to see and don't seem to fit the style of the site.

other than those things this design looks pretty good. congrats

thanks for the comments. The only thing though is i designed it with a differant background, but was told it needed to be white with the website in the middle to match their(horrible) main website. So, that being said, is it a big enough eye sore to where i should try to redesign to fit more to the white background?

yea, that green bar at the bottom is throwing your design way off.

the top part is gorgeous, very well done. but that huge green bar is effing it all up.

edit: the photo of the kids in the header should be flipped so that there isn't a cut off edge on the left. or fix it, it's gross! i also agree that you have too many fonts going on.

i always find it humorous when churches make religion out to be "extreme", or they put an Emo Haircut on it... it's like they are selling energy drinks, not jebus.

yeah, i threw that green bar at the bottom quickly at the end, because nothing was working down there. I'll spend some more time on that. About the extreme church thing, are you referring to my design? Because it wasn't so much about making the church youth group look extreme, as it was to make the website not boring to look at.

I would tone down your colours... your palette consists of over 10 unrelated colours.

1 orange
2 yellows
1 dark red
1 lighter red
1 muted green
1 pale yellow
1 cyan (?? really?? ugliest colour on the interwebs...)
1 dark lime green
1 light lime green
and some greys....

You must unify your colours!!

Move the word ministries over 4pixles in the header.

The header is the strong point it just gets worse the further one scrolls down.

thanks everyone for the help. I'll try everyones suggestions and tone down the amount of colors and fonts, and other. hah, and by the way, I just figured out what you meant by the whole extreme thing, haam. The extreme bible study thing is a joke, i just made it up to make the client(who im friends with) laugh.

ok, i made a new version(its in my first post). let me know if its an improvement. I was told by the client that they wanted it simpler, but with a similiar logo to the other designs. Im not sure about the colors again....or the design to be honest....so let me know.

I like the update a lot more. Seems a little too white spaced tho... try adding some more content.

hey
I'm not trying to make excuses but while i completely agree with you, the client was adamant about it being a white background centered website with only news and a calendar on the front page. I'm actually pretty sure hes even going to tell me to make it so the black bar doesn't stretch all the way to the sides. Basically he wants me to try and match the style of the churches homepage, http://www.eastminster-presby.org . If you view that horrific site, you can probably get a feel for how frustrating this has been for me.

I believe torture is legal in the US, so knuckle down and suffer, besides you are doing a great job, under the circumstances.

all the more reason to make it look amazing compared to the current crap so they are motivated to have YOU redo their site to match the youth ministry.

you could even get maintenance out of it if it is too difficult to them to edit (or just increase the price to make it user/novice/destroyer-of-decent-pages friendly).

yeah, thats actually exactly what im trying to do, and they've already pretty much said that if this one turns out good, i'll probably be hired on for their main site.
