The layout is pretty simple and clean, but it could of been easily created with plain HTML with the use of iframes. Other than the intro, there isn't much in the rest of the layout that took advantage of what flash is capable of.

thanks for the reply!
yes the simple/clean look was our goal because we feel an awards site must be neutral.
yes that could have been made just in html but when i'm asked why flash for this? i reply "why html?", why having a new page loading the whole thing everytime a link is clicked? also this site was a lot easier to make using flash then html and in my opinion you don't have to make a flashy site just because you use flash, flash is a developer tool just others and you can choose either to use it for making something flashy or simple it's your choice according to each site's purpose. don't you agree?
eyeinfinitude

I agree that a flash site doesn't have to be flashy, but to me it would of been easier to use HTML. You can have one iframe setup to load all the content in and it wouldn't require that you load the entire page each time a link is clicked. It will only load the content into the iframe.
Well either way it doesn't really matter, there are more than one way to do things.
itworks
July 6th, 2003, 08:54 AM
the iframe was an option but i think everyone must use whatever tool he's more confortable with and flash is easier to me and i think it's the best option for this site, has you said there's always more than one way to do things ;)
anymore comments, suggestions?

July 6th, 2003, 08:57 AM
Well you can still maintain the simplicity of the site and still add a bit of flashy effects by creating some kind of transition effect between each section so that it's a bit more interesting.
It doesn't have to be anything too dramatic, it could just be a simple fade in and fade out effect.

nice suggestion, thanks! i'll take that in consideration when i redesign it for next month because of the new site of the week award.

Inlineframes are frames that has the appearance of depth. You can see an example of it at this link, scroll down about half way.

Itworks put back your white banner ;) back I liked it more than the actual black one + those colors are not matching up , just a suggestion.
Site is ok dont think it needs any enhancement for its purpose. keep it up.

Hey man, your site looks good to me, very clean and relaxing color themes, and award sites does not have to be flashy at all, one example is FWA right! keep up the good work man!!! Ciao

thanks a lot for your comments.
MrMass - usually, where the flashing news are now, we have the awards and a little text about them, now they're not there because of those news which will be gone soon.
EDE - well i only changed the banner to black because i'm seeing this forum with the default style and i think the white banner doesn't stand out do i changed to a black, but maybe i'll change it sometime soon to another color.
sherwinM - yes, my opinion also, flash is just a tool that you can use to make sites, just like plain html, you decide which to use and what kind of site to make.

Hey itworks, good to see you here too!
Well the site looks clean and neat to me. Agree on what you said earlier about the simplicity of a award giving site. iFrame is a good thing about making html sites but having Flash over an HTML site is a lot better. As its better when considerd over technology. No ones gonna be making html sites in the near future IMO. Get some clean transitions and bet ya the site will looks a lot better than what it is now.

"No ones gonna be making html sites in the near future IMO."
don't you ever say that the mother of all internet languages is going to die.. :D

the site looks good, fits the purpose.
i think the use of flash is well placed, 90% of all submissions will be flashsites too.

hej ..
just want to say that i really like the site
nice colors, nice layout, nice everything :)
if it was your goal to create simple, clean site (like you said)
you really did a great job.
just because you are using flash to "create" the site doesn't mean you have to use all kinds of "flashy" effects and stuff
sometimes "less" can be "more" (or some like that :) )

I've always liked it. Very clean and fast loading with good SFX.
However, the intro doesn't really add anything, so I think you should either spice it up or just get rid of it (I skip it every time).
And everyone, submit your site(s)!

July 10th, 2003, 12:11 PM
I say get rid of it most people will use the skip button anyways. LOL

MrMass
July 10th, 2003, 03:50 PM
I would spice it up a bit :) not too much...maybe one extra sound or two, with a shadow or something....a small touch that can make a big difference!
p.s
sign f is a bit choppy, I dont think u need it!
hope this helps

Dude i tell you what, behind the text which appears in your intro, just have some horizontal fast moving streaks. Thats about it, it'll look a lot corporate and to the vibe.

And please get rid of the black in your footer, it looks awful. CHange it to white. Thats if you even care:) Just my thoughts though!

i think that the black footer it's more attractive at least with the default color scheme of this forum, the purpose is for people to notice it even if it's because it looks bad, lol
but i changed it, i'll use the white one for a while since you seem so angry about it, i don't want to upset noone.

Site looks better, but for the love of god :) take off that default or as they say "newb bevels" ehehe I dont see it fitting the site just my taste/opinion :) keep it up , its looking better each time.
PS: just keep the logo as it was maybe with a "light drop shadow" and maybe make an effect for it like that logo maybe spinning around fast /glowing than stops and the wordings coming with internet tiny awads and the small key words amazed etc... afterwards would defenitly look cooler more professional.
itworks
July 16th, 2003, 04:02 PM
thanks for the comments E.D.E., i kind of like the bevel but i'll look at it again this time with your comment in mind.
about the last part of the logo spinning and the words coming afterwards are you talking about the intro?
E.D.E
July 16th, 2003, 04:12 PM
Np man, If you like it that stick with it, it was just my opinion and trying to help out make your site the best it can be, Im just not too found of the use of bevels on logos, but it always depends how you use the bevels too. Im sure some will like it others wont its all a matter of taste after all just like in everything :) but if you're going to a more professional look I say leave the bevels out.
As for that small logo like > on the main page where the featured sites are...instead of loading up just simple it would be cool if the title (logo + text) kinda came in fast. ex: that > turn around 3dish fast just the outlines of it and stop up and get filled with its colors while the big text appears. Its kind of hard to explain what I have in my head as a vision of it LOL
bah hope you get what I am trying to say LOL :)
good luck man.
itworks
July 16th, 2003, 04:52 PM
thanks man, about the bevel i though you were talking about the main square thing and not the logo, ok i see your point now.
about the animation thing sorry but i don't quite follow if you're talking about the main thing on top because you say the thing next to the featured sites, sorry. and yes i know it's hard to explain an idea in a forum :-\
thanks again for your help...
