Does anyone have any tips for good calm music? My job is very noisy and loud, so after 10+ hours of constant noise I'm not really in the mood for the music I usually listens to :D
Songs like JCB with Nizlopi, John Butler Trio - Caroline, Better Than.
Preferrably not depressing music :P

"calm" is not necessary, but fairly simple music...
I'll check those two out, thanks

When I need to relax I listen to HUM. It's not like elevator music or anything, but really mellow rock that just gets me back to earth.
Two albums I would totally suggest...
Downward Is Heavenward & You'd Prefer an Astronaut

^"Stars" is mellow? I might have to check out the full album, then.
For me, there's a podcast I subscribe to called Ultima Thule. It's a weekly broadcast of "ambient and atmospheric music" from a radio station Down Under. I do a lot of my coding while listening.

^Heh, yeah, do a google search for 'Thule Gesselschaft', it's really disturbing.
Wamdue Project is great, relaxy stuff. Lots of the 'Global Underground' series too.

what music do you like? any jazz /soul/ lounge/neo soul?
For lounge/smooth lounge try 'Cafe Del Mar' or 'Buddha Bar' or 'St Germain'(try to get number 7 in that series) and 'Sweetback'.
For Lounge with a jazz twist try 'Cafe del Mar des pres'.
For jazz guitar give Wes Montgomery a listen or more 'now' try Ronny Jordan (my person fav) or Norman Brown.
other smooth jazz you can try George Benson, Boney James, Brian Culbertson and Roy hargrove.
Also check out some neo/soul artist, Dwele, jill scott, ledisi to name a few.
And finally in the other category try Michael Bublé' and Norah jones.

I love jazz! I haven't actually listened to much, and I don't owe anything jazz, but I like it a lot (the little I have heard).
So much to check out :D Looks like a full day at the record shop :)
thanks guys!

-Donell Jones
-D'angelo (this one is more neo soul as well, actually this is one of my favourite artist)
-Eric Benet
-Indie Arie
-Joe
-and for love making baby music look at Maxwell

Old (Hindi) Indian songs. Always helps me. If you listen to Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Lata, or Asha, that's it man!
(But I'm sure you're not looking for Hindi or Indian songs. :P)

Get the Album "Damnation" by Opeth.
DO NOT get any of their other albums as they are a heavy death metal band being the opposite of what you want. But this one album they did all soft tunes. My mom likes it, my friends hip hop/clubbing sister likes it, and his mom "misplaced" the cd.... I have yet to get it back.
Very easy listening.

Most of Dave Grusin's are pretty good, soft guitar and beats in the background coupled with some vocals on some songs. Double-thumbs-up for easy-listening music.

The Album Leaf is pretty good, one man band with guests every now and then
My boss just sent me an album by a group called The Notwist, from what I can tell so far, its calming and pleasing to my ears

Most of the backing tracks from the 'Scrubs' comedy series are pretty mellow, if you like more acoustic type stuff. For some reason, I just had a flash back to Robert Cray for some mellow music- no idea why, not listened to his stuff for years. Kruder and Dorkmeister for more 'loungey' type music... after that i'm fresh out of soft music and back into my metal collection.
