stranglehold for xbox360. I have it. I love it.

reminds me of max payne. Nothing too original here, but so far everything has been done very well.

There are some nice features, the game is based on John Woo's genre-defining action movie, Hard Boiled starring Chow Yun-Fat. The game features Inspector Tequila and of course he is voiced by Chow. There is a feature called Tequila time, it's basically slow motion ala the Matrix. Again, nothing original, but there are some nice add-ons, for instance, there's a beserk mode (forget what it's called), where your character can go on auto fire and if he gets hit during this time, he doesn't lose any health, and you don't lose any bullets. There's the aim feature, where you can long distance aim at an enemy, if you hit them you see a nice animation. There are other features but I just got this on saturday.

the environments are pretty nice, I felt that there was a little more pixelation than I had expected based on the fact that it's brand new and on the 360. The cut scenes are great, the voice acting is top notch, it's inspired by a hong kong action movie, and you hear enemies speak in cantonese, for those who can't understand it, well you're missing out on being called an "idiot!" or "stupid" it's small, but it adds to the experience.

I also really liked the inclusion of being able to 'glide' or 'slide' along elements in the environment, if you're in a bar, you can dive over the bar and lean up against the inside of it. If you see a railing you can slide down it and shoot at enemies, doing this action automatically invokes 'tequila time' and it's sweet when you can string together a few of these and finish off like 10 guys.

there's another mode in the game, that you will encounter early on, where you're faced with like 5 guys, all pointing guns at you, but they'll allow you to face them one at a time, it's called a mexican stand off. Everything is slow motion, you have to dodge the bullets standing still (you lean left or right), and you have to shoot and hit the enemy within a given time frame, once the time frame is over you move on to the next guy, anyone who is left standing after you still have to finish in real time.

The environments are really well done too, I felt like I was in Hong Kong, everyone is chinese, and so they should be!

The sound design is great, you can hear bullets wiz past you, in slow motion everyone talks slowly, and guns go off in slow mo, doors creak and crack, everyone speaks cantonese (obviously everyone speaks english as this is released in an english dominant region, but they also speak cantonese), and things generally sound the way they should.

The start menu even looks like a dvd start menu!

The things I didn't like so far, is that you can't jump, and the in-game graphics seem slightly less quality than I had expected.

Well worth the money, and so good so far that I am slightly regretting not shelling out the extra 10 bucks for the collectors edition.

if you are into 3rd person shooters like max payne, and/or you are into hong kong action movies chances are very good you'll like this game.

Ihave heard nothing but good things about this game. Someone compared it to Max Payne meets San Andreas meets Crack Down. Oh and I am moving this for you.

Well I am going to go get this today. Now I need to pass Halo 3, Bioshock, Stranglehold and still need to pass dead rising and lost planet..... :(

Dead rising is a freakin awesome game, but I find it really fails when it comes to the level design, they made it really hard to get through the 3 days if you miss something on the first day. so frustrating. but kicking zombie-azz is wicked fun.

halo I was never really into, played the first 2 but i waited till the hype died down before I bought them, same thing goes for halo 3 I'll wait till at least christmas. the good thing with halo 3 is that if you beat it by november (forget the exact day) and you return it to EB games, they'll give you $50 for it garaunteed.

I traded nhl 07, bioshock and 5 old ps2 games for stranglehold. Bioshock I beat twice already, no more value for me.

next up for me will be skate, then assassins creed in november. mario galaxy the gf will get prolly (hopefully).

Thanks for moving the thread DDD, hope the mini-review gave others some help on deciding to pick this up or not (not like they could go to a dozen online gaming sites to get a review, but hey I like to think I help this forum with their gaming choices).

I'm the last level of Stranglehold! The part in Woo's Garden.. just beat the **** out of that helicopter that TRIED to shoot me down! BUT NO, HOW GOT SHOWED? HE DID! Man, that battle was fun....I mean how doesn't live shooting people in bullet time?

I'd say the easiest way to rate this game is say its Max Payne with John Woo/Inspector Tequila instead. Its so great, its amazing..although the graphics on the PC are kinda lackluster even at highest settings, but the gameplay I think can make up for that. Sometimes the boss battles are EXTREMELY annoying at the hardest setting, but I guess its worth it when you finally beat them!

I just got it like 3 days ago, I'm not at the end, but I think I'm close. I'm in the casino in that big building right now, it's pretty fun.

Hey.. I'm stuck! I'm at the very end of the game where I'm facing off against Wong's Personal Giant bodyguard... I can't figure out how to beat him! This is on the Hardest difficulty btw, and everything I've tried doesn't work... I can't get enough Tequila Bombs to do any real damage... That guy is damn invincible! Anyone beat this yet? Since gamefaqs doesn't have a FAQ up yet....

I'm on the second hardest mode right now (NHL08 is taking up my evenings!). As far as I'm concerned, the best way to beat him is to stand by a health pack, shoot him, use the health pack then tequila bomb. you should have at least one bomb ready at the beginning. after you bomb him run beside the next health pack and repeat. I haven't looked at any walkthroughs (never do really), so that has worked for me so far. Also if you have grenades those work fairly well too.

when it gets really panicky I run upstairs wait for fatty to follow then jump over the railing and run to the bottom of the stairs he went up then shoot him while running up the railing, tequila time ensues.

Okay... I always just get smashed by a ton of little henchmen at the same time with knives :(... haha, I might want to turn the difficulty down a bit.

dive.

slide if you don't have any tequila stuff.

use the golden gun, it's a one shot kill for the henchmen, use the semi's for the big guy. Other than that it's all skillz ;)

Isn't this game incredibly short? Like 4 really short level gameplay?
