The sites really slow, I assume due to traffic.. but it's impressive that it still works. Really good idea, the RIAA might see that a lot of people are actually willing to pay for good music. The income of the recording artists doesn't depend on DRM. DRM just inhibits word of.. song.. advertising.

This kind of thing from radiohead doesnt suprise me at all. and i mean that in a purely completmentry way. Radiohead are such a terrific band, i will very interested to see how many people do pay for it. I would of paid somthing but, dont have a credit card.

Havent been keeping up to date much with radiohead's going on latley, but this seems to have come totaly out of left field.

yeap

all weeks i search info abpout the new album
and everythings seems taht it was gonna be released on next year
but this, its justa a hughe surprise

radiohead had a very bad relation with their label (they made all their album eith them for a contract) and they where not very happy with the condittions and all that, so, they decide to make it on their way, and this wierdo marketing strategy can change the music records sales industry, if this works, much more arist will want to do it, but of course, this is radiohead, this is way this idea is working

I found some very interesting quotes about the idealogy about this marketing stratergy. “As for the special situation in China, it does not seem to be easy to obtain Western music via legal channels, so I have the following suggestion for our fans: If you can find and buy our legal CDs, I express my thanks for your support. If you cannot find it, I think that downloading from the Internet is a more acceptable option than buying pirated CDs. Our music is easy to find on the Internet, and you might not need to spend much effort to find most of our songs. If you like our songs after you’ve heard them, please feel free to share it with your friends. As I have put all my effort and heart into my music, I sincerely hope that more and more people can share the enjoyment with us.”
http://www.last.fm/music/Radiohead/+journal That idea that they prefer you to download the music than to buy a pirated copy is so right. That someone else isnt profiting from you're enjoyment of the beauty of the album. And in the sense of a record company, they are profiting from you're enjoyment. Radiohead have really hit the nail on the head, its not about the profits, its about the music. And with this new album, you tell us how much its worth, not only in currency, but in emotion.

Another very intersting article about about radiohead, and itunes. Radiohead refuse to have their music sold on itunes, because itunes refuses to sell the music as album only. http://puddlegum.net/radioheads-fight-to-keep-the-album-alive/ The album issue is somthing i feel very strongly about, and i feel the record industry today has destory today. They should be called the Single Industry. its all about the single, market the single before the album is even release. And they way the majority of the market today talk about music:
-"oohhh i really like that new band"
+"have u listened to their album"
-"nah, but that song on the radio is really good"
blegh, how can u fully appreciate a band, if uve only listened to the single....

anyway, i will contain my rant from there.

Hope this album actually lives up to all this hype, and we can be part of history here.

the idea of download one song from a album is destreoing the concept
is like hearing lucy in the sky with diamons but never heard all the sgt pepper record
and most important with radiohead, coss their album are a hughe concept, and you cannot take one song and undestarnd it, those songs are part of a mayor work.

emailed an A&R executive at a major European label. "If the best band in the world doesn't want a part of us, I'm not sure what's left for this business."

ooohh its good! As good as hail to the theif def. Im more into OK Computer and the Bends though, so not as good as though, but they are a dif style. Only listened through it once so far so havent grasped it fully yet. But I like what i hear. Nude is simply beatiful. The whole album has a very Kid A feel to it i think. All the tracks arent 'together' as much as other albums. Like, OK Computer, all the tracks they just fit. The only way to listen to it is from start to end. Rainbows is not as 'tight', but hail wasnt as tight either in my opinion. But i was expecting it to not be as 'tight' (cant think of any other adjective to define it) when they decided on releasing bonus tracks and such with the box set.

All said though. Still a beatiful ride, only wish i had a more interesting first listen story, than sitting infront of my computer.

it's a shame the audio quality is noticeably compressed... i'm not an audiophile by any means but i'm getting some distracting distortion when listening. I recognise it's a digital download and all that, but when people are paying just like for a CD...

"faust arp" just started for me, and i'm liking it :)

So is this band good? I've heard of them but never heard them, what style is the music? Though I admit if it isn't hard rock or metal I would never listen to them.

But it would be cool if everyone started giving their music a away for free.

"faust arp" just started for me, and i'm liking it :)yeah, i admit, 160kbps is a bit of a dissapointment, at very least 192 i would of thought. preferably 256 or 320. oh well, i can really notice that much distortion, though im only listening through laptop speakers.

@gary - haha, yeah not really metal here. not really sure what ud define it as. earlier albums, maybe kind of indie, but not typical indie. Later albums, which would be there main sound would be electronic? alternate? im not really sure. what would u define it as guys? Pretty much, they are a band. Guitar, Bass, Drums, Piano, but with a strong electronic distortion influence. A little bit start of Dark Side of the Moon style, but more modernish.

(haha, arent i just great at describing music styles.)

If it's saturated, just download it off bittorrent, i didn't even get the email link or anything so i just torrented it (i did pay for it though)

I'm loving the new album. I was hoping for something more in the vein of There There, but all of the songs are good in their own right.

whit this quality and size they get ensure that download will be fast and meny people can get it

Very good question, not knowing who they were I downloaded it and listened to it while on the road with my wife and 13 year daughter. We all agreed it was terrible.

But since that day I have listened to it on my ipod a few times and grown to like a few songs. I wouldn't have hyped this album up as much as people did but its not as terrible as my original impression.

I went and bought the physical cd today, but im sorry to say it lacked the excitment that normally comes with buying a new album from a band you love. I almost wish they hadnt gone on with the selling on the internet thing, i get the feeling its make the now properly released album feel less worthy. I feel like I only went and bought it so that i could have higher quality mp3s on my ipod than the dodge 92kbps ones that i downloaded.

I only wish I was a radiohead fan when Hail to the Theif or OK Computer were released, and be able to go out and buy them on release day and have a great first time i listened to them story.

i thought downloading it and listening to it was a great first time listening to it story! haha, it really is an amazing album. Using the piano's and strings a lot within the guitars is amazing. I'm still in love with All I Need. And the bonus CD has some awesome tracks on it too. Like '4 Minute Warning' and 'Flowers to the Hospital'.

I love all the albums. The reason I love Radiohead and other bands of the like (Smashing Pumpkins) who change their sound so much at each album and go a different direction. Kida A, Adore (smashing pumpkins)... yeah.
