Hey

I was wondering if anybody could help me convert ASP to PHP. I know only the very basic stuff so I'm pretty lost. Thanks in advance.

Since my webhost is running Linux, I can't use ASP, correct?

I'm also confused

All the pages I got (which includes the pages that are linked) look very similar to the one I posted above. The links seem to lead to ASP pages though. If I just changed the file extension to .html it wouldn't work correctly would it?

How does ASP work? Does the original file on the webserver stay in ASP while the pages we view on the browser get converted to html?

Conversion from ASP to PHP requires the knowledge of both scripting languages.

If the sites are database-driven, it also requires the additional knowledge
of mysql and SQL Server or Access.

There are some automatic programs (see asp2php.naken.cc) to
convert ASP Code to PHP Code. But as in any conversion,
the output is not perfect and requires considerable rework,
understanding of the original code and matching with
converted code, filling out the missing pieces and testing.

If it is a hobby site, you may study asp/php at w3schools,
and try it yourself. You will learn both asp/php in the process.

We have done a similar work earlier. If you need professional help,

Depends on the content of the pages. You probably could just change the extension to .html for most of them by the looks of it.

If these paramaters have any siginificance, simple change of
extension to .html will not work for these.

^ yup. You would have to check and see if other pages are expecting a query string variable.

Look for something like



my = Request.QueryString("L1")


If so that variable is being used.

Ok I'm going to take a look

Theres a box/area/page in the middle of the main page which is were the content is loaded. Could those parameters be telling it to load the content pages in that middle section?

I have a couple of pages which are like this:

example.asp?page1
example.asp?page2
example.asp?page3

The pages differ from each other. Can I just move the 'page1' before the extension, rename to html and change the link that leads to it?

The code you posted doesn't contain any ASP code either.

As far as example.asp?page1, example.asp?page2 is more then likely

example.asp?page=1, example.asp?page=2, example.asp?page=3

Basically by using a query string (what i posted above) who ever wrote this is displaying different information on one page based on what the page variable equals.

So no you cannot move the page 1 and expect this to work.

I have gone through and messed around a bit and it works if I just rename the extensions to .html and also change the links to .html. In regards to that example.asp?page=01, since I have all the variations of the pages saved, I just need to rename to html like the other files and it works. Thanks for all the help guys. ;)
