hey, here's a site i just finished. live today. some of the design is mine, some isn't. flash is all me tho. the client really has all the say, but i figured i'd toss it your way to see what you guys thought.

i did the original design, then the client got new assets for print and decided to take my design and marry it with another internal director's design. pretty frustrating but i think the outcome was pretty rad. and i'm really happy with how the product section came out.

i also designed the estore and the rewear-a-thon community (friggin all 5 million pages of it) ..it's not live yet cause the people building the community aren't done building it..

tell me what you think...

OH HA HA!

the product is called SWASH, the url is www.swash-it-out.com (http://www.swash-it-out.com) - but without dashes it's spells ****! how clever. anyway you can find the site at either link.

very nice. not much else to say, but the check it out button maybe shouldn't float with the mouse.

When I saw that thing that says check it out I thought it was the button. I tried to click on it and it followed my mouse. Maybe make it not look like a button or something?

why shouldn't it float? details like that make websites more fun to navigate. instead of just being some regular old rollover button it chases your mouse around, not a big deal flash wize but way more engaging to a user than just a boring button...

that's my 2 cents. and proctor & gamble loves it. so it'll probably stay :trout:

I like it. My only critique would be to make each flash swf load on the same page, instead of going to different html files (i.e. the home and product page). A very small thing, but might be something to look into. :)

i know what you're saying. it's a little disjointed. the client wanted each page to have it's own search-able url. i don't know know to code deep links yet, so i did the quickest thing i could think of. you're totally right tho, i gotta learn how to do that.

thanks for the crits so far guys.

Not bad at all, it works well.

On a side note, do you know if the products work pretty well?

looks great.. product sites seem more fun than straight up business ones.. just wondering what did you use for the store? custom? or OS or purchased?

thanks

Looks real good. Overall a nice solid site, I really like the hover "bubbles", and especially the one on the homepage. There are a few things that I noticed that bothered me.

1. The generic scrollbar, may have been cool if it was some sort of stylized "swash" w/ arrows in it.

2. When I goto http://www.swash-it-out.com/products.html I found a glitch where if you click on the text "smooth it out", you're still able to get the hover on the dress in the next frame. Seems to be the only one that does it.

3. On the product page, the header text inside the hover, would've been nice if it was a little more thematic instead of just Arial.

That's really nice. Well done

The only thing that I would bring up is the way the little "word bubbles" (e.g. at the bottom of http://www.swash-it-out.com/products.html) look. They look kinda messy and hand-drawn, which doesn't seem to fit the sleek, modern style of the rest of the site at all. Also, the text inside of them sometimes gets too close to their edges.

But, like I said, overall it's awesome!

thanks! you know, we weren't given any. this is all actually a test for the product. they are running a contest called the Rewear-A-Thon that starts in october. but it's all being run in Ohio and aimed at Ohio State students. There is an actual swash store in Ohio near the campus. However, I'm positive the "get it out" stain stick is a re-skin of the regular tide stain stick.

thanks! this was fun, the concept with the clothes was a challenge to work work out but worth it. a company called Soft Coin were actually responsible for the back end. i only designed it and created templates for their dev. people to follow. it was all custom so i'm not sure what they use.

thank you very much sir.
1) i agree 100% - i wasn't able to provide input on that piece of the design if you know what i mean.

2)oh snap! good catch thanks! i gotta fix that. it's on a different function than the rest of the clothes.

3) are you talking about the orange text that is the name of the product (in the bubble) when you roll over a product or clothing item? it's actually Helvetica 55 Roman (17pt, bold, readability) and specifically had to be lower case to meet product name and style guide requirements. it is dangerously close to arial tho :smirk2:

thanks again to everyone for checking out the site!

edit:

@phoenix: thank mang!

@shane-c: i agree man, this was another piece i was not able to provide input on.

Thats the main thing, bonus if the users likes it too, IMO i think it's kinda quirky and i like it for that reason.

Oh and, nice work haam

Nice, I like it.

You already explained the separate html pages so I won't beat that to death :)

hmm, why does it bother you guys so much? does it really make it un-seamless so much that it bugs you? or is it that the site loads twice? when i use the site, even tho it's switching web pages it still runs back to back seamlessly as if it were one file. i don't get why it bothers you guys.

are there any tutorials that make deep linking in flash less of a mystery?

I just don't see the point of having a full flash site where sections load in different pages. Why do I need to reload my browser? I would have tried to find another work around personally.

what did you actually do? you ask this question like you had to get up, walk to a different room, shut down your browser and start it back up again.

you click a button, it goes to a different page. jesus! sounds like a lot of work i know but COME ON!

@dr_vroeg: not all creative writing needs to be grammatically correct. in fact, most times it makes for more interesting reading. not to mention it passed thru proctor and gamble legal with flying colors. don't nit pick, that's not why i posted the site.

Come on now dude don't get pissy because your site reloads the browser every time you click a link

I thought the page changes were pretty seamless, and I can see the value in having different URLs for different sections - not just SEO, but also easy linking.

I doubt any Average Joe end user (which, remember, are the ones that matter) is going to have any problem with it, either.
