My PC notebook broke down and is now being repaired, while this is happening I am trying to use our very old iMac (1998 model I think). I LOVE MACS and I want to use it so badly! But... the screen doesn't show anything when I boot up the Mac, I can hear the fan, the light behind the on button shows, but nothing shows on the screen. Is there any Mac pros who can help me out?
thanks! -mike

You need to provide some ++ insight to your problem...
ie:: what processor/OS/do you have an os disk to boot from/anything else that might give clues (???)

Ok, first ... try this...
(zap the PRAM - (the boot instructions/settings RAM))::
1. Shut down the computer.
2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
3. Press the power button to turn the computer on. You will hear the computer's startup sound.
4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
6. Release the keys.
If that doesn't do it (or if it boots then fails again after shutdown) get a new battery. You'll need your machines specs as there are diff. part #'s for each.
