About a year ago, I was part of a team that created the new Carma Labs website.
I worked with the designers, and took all their artwork, and built this site in SwishMax.

Over the past couple weeks, I got a chance to practice some small amount of my design skills.
A new phrase “It Protects” was added to the Carmex tag line, and I got to design the art for that. So that new bit was added to the Intro, Visual Timeline, and Product(one of the now 4, random images that start the product display area) pages.
Tightened up the News pages, and put in some new stuff.
More changes are in the works, but I can show this much of what’s to come.

Nice work flawless.

shame you couldnt get the sun rays to anitmate behind the shawdow of "it protects", really like the "it tingles" animation.

Good job

Thanks manny.
I'm am proud of this site.
We wanted to keep the anima's fairly simple,
and to make the new bit seem like it was always a part of the whole.
The point for me, was to use the few tricks I do know, well.

Very nice site! Clean, easy to use, I even won some free Carmex!

to be honest i would expect a better site from such a large company. i already dislike their product and the page does nothing to make me want to change my mind.

i am not impressed (not snobbishly). The intro does not look like it belongs on a corporate website.

could definitely use improvement.

nice intro
get better stock pictures with people with better lips and smiles
I don't buy chapstick or lipstick from unattractive people-LOL
but everything else just doesn't work for me
especially the bubble emboss on the characters pre-glow in the second tear nav(facts & myths)

however I really like the 50s art

Feels like it's really dated in style. Some more creative transitions would be nice.

Thanks for the comments :}

I finally got the Visual Timeline page updated to xml populated with what I have learned on these forums, and in this thread (http://www.kirupa.com/forum/showthread.php?t=262481).
Needed to load all images before allowing image changes, to try to maintain the image transition.

Yeah like someone said it does look pretty dated to me.

Love Carmex though.

My boss is going to be on Oprah tomorrow,
so we did some updates, streamed lined it a bit,
and added a couple cool things.

Dated design?
Yeah maybe, but that's the point.
Carmex is still a family owed biz, and that is pretty cool in my eyes.

There's a difference between the retro look being used for style, and then something looking retro because it's ugly and uses bad design aesthetics ;)

Hi not sure how your timeline looks but I get the yellow page...wait... then every thing loads in at once instead of little bits loading in all the time to keep the veiwer intrested I would load in external swfs in to a main swf or have a simple but funky preloader to stimulate the viewer.

thank you

Eh. It feels pretty outdated. The animations are not subtle, they're boring, the design is not retro, it's dated. Overall I think it's pretty mediocre, and ultimately a poor use of Flash.

Here's a cool update I just did for Carmex Lip Balm :)

Did a neat little animation for the main page.
http://www.carma-labs.com/
It only plays the one time, so if you'd like to see it over and over again, check this one out.
Just click on it to re-play the anima...

Check out the prize list...

That's pretty horrible. Total waste of Flash. And as mentioned, you didnt pull off the 'retro' look, it just looks shoddy, poorly designed and dated. Seriously the body copy's typography is atrocious. And little things like the aliasing on scaled images bother me.

I'm sorry, this really is sub-par if you ask me.

That animation is kinda neat though, I do like that :)

Oh well...
Thanks very much for the feedback.
It is always appreciated.

It's a bit funny to me.
About half the people I have shown this to over the past couple years it's been live,
like it a lot, and about half simply hate it. I very much wish I could take credit for the design
of this site, but alas that honor belongs to Mercury Communication (http://www.mercuryww.com/).
All I did was the anima/programming.

I guess the biggest reason I bumped this up to begin with, was because of the video contest.
I figured the students around these parts might be interested in that bit, regardless of the design of the site.

Still, I am looking forward to seeing all the entries.
If anybody from here enters, best of luck to 'ya :)

I think it looks pretty neat.

Not crazy about the movement though, I would have loved this site in CSS. If you want to use flash you need to.... flash it up a bit :P
