Ringtone code

I want to be able to make my own ringtones and have other people come to my site and upload them to their phone. Can someone explain to me if I need to do anything special to make this happen. I guess what I'm asking is what do I need to do to make the ringtone send to a phone number?

How do you get a ringtone now? You will probably have to follow a similar method — but don’t most phones use different things? I’m sure some may use MP3s, while others will have a specific “ringtone format.”

Or am I way off?

you are right, thats why I want to know if there is some kind of universal code I can use so the ringtones will format and send to any phone.

either making a LONG list of phone types and doing years of research for their specific ringtone format then putting them all into a mysql db then into a drop down list which navigates to download pages for that phone...

if not, then im fed
