Very affordable web hosting starting at 4USD a month with a 1 domain included.

I have been using 1and1.com for around 2 years now and have never had a problem with their hosting. There customer support is very prompt and fast for the size of the company. The server speed is always close to instant relative to my internet connection. The PHP support is always updated and the mysql is very simple system for creating DB. The sub domain and domain creation screen is very simple and allows for various customization.
Love the Hosting.

^ i have visited their site and it looks quite intersting.
i am looking for a web server for my portfolio, here is a couple of thing that i ve been told to look :
Security (less risk of being hacked)
support (available)
php (is it supported)
around 100mb of space
2 or 1 domain name
..
Because you siad to be with them since 2 years, i am wondering if you thing based on the upon specifications, 1&1 can be a good web hosting?
offtopic : what is the difference between windows and linux hositng ? does is have to do anything with the system on my computer or it is something else ?

Hmmmm... not the greatest review
I'm personally not a fan of 1and1. But then again I haven't used them in a good 6yrs or so. This wouldn't really sway me to go back to them... if that was an intent. But if I hadn't used them this wouldn't really sway me to go to them for the first time either.

Nice Rez wolf. The only reason I made this thread back then was to show that the review thread was being used so it wouldn't be destroyed.
Heck the test forum gets more views/posts.
And wolf get Home plan 120gig PHP5.2 and everything else.

I've used 1and1.com for all of my clients so far and not a single problem. Even their tech support is decent, and they've solved all of my issues within a day or so. Good stuff, especially since your paying very low prices.

1and1 is by far the WORST hosting company I have EVER dealt with. Their telephone support is utterly clueless and doesn't have the foggiest idea how anything works. Every time I've called them I seem to get some moron named "Rusty", who always pauses about 3 seconds before every response, as though he's manually constructing the sentence in (or outside of) his head. Combine his idiocy with the company's refusal to escalate problems (even after they persist for weeks) and you get a sorry sham of a hosting company. I'm currently just trying to move away from them, and finding that to be extremely difficult, as their online documentation, email support, and phone support are all mutually inconsistent.
Stay away from this nightmare of a company! 1and1 is a DISASTER!!!!!!!!!!

There Email support takes about 5 hours and the answers they send back are very easy to understand.
Hmm... what exactly where you having trouble with... it could be that it isn't there fault. I can't think of any reason one would have to call them though... they always have the highest version of PHP and their servers are always running.
What was wrong with your server anyway?

Honestly, I kinda swear by 1and1. The price is good. Support is great. You get lots of free tools. And I like the control panel. Granted I dont do some of the higher end things that is needed at times. But for 98% of the stuff I do I go there first.
1and1 gets my thumbs up as well. Been with them for years. Sounds like actual_person has a secret agenda...lol.

I use 1and1.com too and it's great for doing very basic stuff. But they only give you 100 MB of MySQL space. And they give a very vague warning, "do not query the database so often". Because of this, it's not ideal for social networking sites that need constant database access and a lot of storage space.

Storage space they have a decent amount and bandwidth. Database is the largest downside but many use 100mb per database.
