Hi. I'm primarily a flash artist/designer, but I've always dabbled in photoshop. PS 6 to be exact, and I never formally learned how to use it. I just kind of played with tools and figured out things here and there.

Soon I want to upgrade to the Adobe creative suite, with the new flash, photoshop, illustrator, etc. And I'd like to have a photoshop cs3 book. I'm not really interested in the 'photograph' aspects of photoshop, but more of the technical stuff like what all the tools do, how to create a myriad of effects, etc. The top books on amazon seem to be made for photographers, so I figured I'd ask you guys for suggestions.

I'm mostly looking to make nice interfaces, menus, HUDS, to use in my flash movies/games. Also possibly website graphics.

when you get the cs3 suite it will come with user manuals for the programs... i haven't checked to see how different they are to the Help files (if at all) but they're very good at explaining what tools do, how to use commands and stuff. That, augmented with a few good g00gle searches, has always provided me with all the technical know-how i need to get started (then it comes down to experimentation and perseverance).

i don't actually know of other books that are good, so i can't help you with that...

i usually just rely on online tutorials:P

The Help system is very useful if you invest some time in it. :)
