Before you jump in and start reviewing or reading reviews, be sure to read the following:
Reviewing your own product/services:
Please don't! This is not a forum to advertise your product, and any reviews of your own product would undoubtedly be biased.
This also applies to 3rd-party reviews of your product. When creating a thread:
Search first! There may already be a review of the same product that you were considering reviewing. It's best to keep reviews for the same product in one thread.
Create a thread only if you are the reviewer. Users come to this forum to read reviews by fellow Kirupians! They will search the web for externally published reviews.
Include the body of the review in the post itself. The thread should not serve as a conduit to your review site/blog.
Don't start a thread asking for a review. If you are having trouble finding a review already, it is rather unlikely that a member will be casually browsing the Review forum looking for reviews to write. If you read a post from a user who appears to be an expert on a product elsewhere on the forums, and you would like them to write a review, try sending them a polite private message.Other things to keep in mind:
This forum is supposed to be appropriate for readers of all ages; reviews should be similarly appropriate. Review items should not include tobacco products, alcohol, or other products that might encourage behavior inappropriate for younger users . Use good judgment when picking an item to post!
Links to reviewed products should not contain any referral tags. You should post reviews for the benefit of the other users, not because you stand to reap a reward from product site hits.
Use descriptive (http://www.kirupa.com/forumGuide/gettinghelp.htm) thread titles.Enjoy reading the reviews, and don't forget to post review feedback! :)

Just a quick question, can we review video games and such, because I always want to know people's opinion about a game before I fork out the cash for it?

I don't see why not.

Is it appropriate to post things like this ... ?
Firefox is a wonderful application. The thing is, and this makes it pretty much completely useless, is that it is the biggest memory hog ever, on a regular basis using more RAM than IE7. Which is silly.
Anyways, no application on earth should be so useless.
Or would you say that's bad? :sigh:

^ as long as you have a disclaimer saying it is your own opinion I guess you could write anything *suitable* Nokrev.

I was thinking about reviewing Eragon (Inheritance Trilogy), would that be an OK thing to review here?

Temp, do you mind if I write a generator in PHP so that people don't have to go through the hassle of creating their own images over and over again? :q:

^Go for it, I'll host it if you want (PHP 5.2)...
There are only a few types of headers as you can see i made a template for each one.
Myriad Web Pro.

Don't worry about hosting, I've got PHP5 with GD2 so it isn't a problem. And I've got Myriad Web Pro also. :D

Man transparent PNGs on those backgrounds!
Templarian
08-10-2007, 04:11 PM
^Yea and remove the [PS2] at the start of the titles. lol. *and yea you can set the background to transparent in my template and resave it when your doing it. I don't think we have to care about IE6 users viewing the forums web dev/des are smarter than that.

Ok, I've gotten beta version 1.1 done. There's no icon support but it's still fairly powerful for a 10-minute build.

^Very nice work, now try and get a type to work there are only like 10 icons.
I'll list them for you...

Place them at 5px,5px. they are 82x74. Your text would have to be 88 pixels from the left about.
//edit, forgot its: web,book,movie,pc,psp,ps2,ps3,ds,xbox,360,wii,linu x,mac
//edit, 2 cleared up all icons and added a psp icon.

Either make one for other OSs, or make it generic ... :sigh:
Templarian
08-11-2007, 01:34 AM
^Nokrev it was Games for Windows... nothing really OS based at all, just the platform that the games run on. Sorry for the misunderstanding (you know its PC, Xbox, 360, wii ect...).

Those headers need to lose the left padding in them- because the content below them stick out.
And the whole page thing at the top makes it look like the rest of the stuff below it needs to be on the "page". Why not just use just type with a solid bar bg?
Esherido
08-11-2007, 07:32 AM
Esherido just has to add them up.
Yeah sorry, I had to go to a party after my post to the link, and afterwards was too tired to get on kForum so I just went to sleep.
I'll try to see if I can think up a way to work in the icon functionality. :D
Templarian
08-11-2007, 12:18 PM
Take your time, if you just put a simple drop down box with the value="pc" and in the php just replace it with "icon_".$_GET['type'].".png"

Yes, I totally agree with you on this one... BTW, the very last finale sucked.... hahaah, I still need to watch Atlantis though.
And also, is it okay for myself to sometime post a whole sticky thread about what to know/do when buying/looking at laptops?
Esherido
08-13-2007, 08:04 AM
A "Laptop Buying Guide" sounds cool.
Theros
08-13-2007, 12:27 PM
Yeah, since I just bought a new laptop awhile back, I figured why not share the experience with everyone else.... It could help a lot of people. I'll have to write it up when I get a chance

Shouldn't the Reviews thread be in Computer/Tech with the kind of reviews we are getting? It would be better in there!
