Just having some fun, and I wanted to learn how to make my own realistic turning thingamabob =). And yes there is a reason for everything in this file :sure:
Oh and "Vrrrroooooooooooommmmmm! F " is a quote from maddox ;)

wheeeeeeeeeee............ I always wanted a bubble powered rocket. I could play with that for hours!

I used to have a water (pressure) powered rocket :beam: I played with it for hours it was red and was shaped just like losts! you filled it like 1/2 way with water, hooked up the pump, pressured it up and let her rip. good times.

cool lib :) it doesn't. that rocket has a sophisticated array of afterburners directed in the opposite direction, so when the pilot goes in reverse, it kills the main rocket engine and activates the reverse engines. if you keep zooming in, you should see them. :P
I had lots of fun playing with that, lib. I was able to practice my parallel parking with it. i realized that i can't even virtual parallel. :(
sen: nothing was more fun than making exploding 2-liter bottles: vinegar and baking soda. i once blew the top off a high-end plastic test tube/vial that was about two millimeters thick. i used dry ice and water on that one :)
science is so much fun.

aw man, i just thought of something. i've gotta make a multiplayer flash racing game. pass variables through PHP, maybe?
i think this will be my next project, screw my site, that can wait. if anybody wants to help, lemme know.
Jubba
June 28th, 2003, 10:54 AM
that would be cool. sending the variables that quickly thru PHP might not be the most efficient thing, but its possible. If you need any help let me know.

It's a pill with wings that blasts bubbles and you choose to focus on the fact that it can go backwards? Quite interesting :P But as I said in my first post I have my reasons  But if it will set your mind at ease, I slowed down the reverse and made the bubbles lighter to make it appear as though it was being propelled backwards via "afterburners directed in the opposite direction" as Thor stated. Maybe I didn't achieve that too well :P

Hmm, good point... perhaps one day I will expand, but I don't know. I am not much of a game programmer, never had an interest in that side, but that may change in the future.

Hehe, it's not exactly original (aside from the bubble powered pill rocket) so I didn't really think of it, just decided to try to figure out how to do it.
I was going to do a kind of car thing because I wanted to figure out how to do turns in Flash that were rounded off and not just sharp turns. It took me a bit to figure that out (math was never my friend :( ), then after I figured that out I took it a few steps further and just kept slowly evolving it until it became what it is now.

Now all it needs is some asteroids and some shooting! =)

Hehe, yeah, I did use my particle script from http://www.lostinbeta.com/experimental/mouseTrailer3.html , that was part of my inspiration among other things.

[thor too evaluates lost's code...]
hm...you really love that question mark operator don't you? :P
and hey, don't let anyone say anything about how you code. if you can read it, that's fine; everyone has their own style. also, ever thought of using the modulus operator (%), it might help clean your code up a bit ;) (i'll let you figure out where i'm talking about).

This might be very hard (and more trouble than it's worth), but would it be possible using some of ahmed's server stuff (like the drawing thing he just made) for 2 people at different computers to be able to fly spaceships in the same window?
Then you could make one the cop space ship and the other the robber, and when the cop hits the robber, he wins and the thing resets. That'd be fun :).

Yeah, I got well adjusted in using the tertiary operator in Javascript and when I found out you could do that in AS I was so happy :) As far as I know it doesn't speed up or slow down your code (I think Flash auto-converts it to a standard if/else during runtime. not sure though), so as you said, if I can read it then who cares :P
And I know what the modulo operator is, I can't check out my code right now, but later I will try and find where I can optimize my code using modulo (since I am math retarded it is most likely that I won't be able to find it, but dangit I will try!), thanks for the tip.

If you wanna try, then go for it ;) I personally know I have no chance of getting something like that to work. Server-side Flash was never my strong point, and since I know very little PHP and nothing about mySQL, and nothing about how to have 2 people on 2 computers run this, chances of me getting that to work are slim to none.

Yeah, it is the way I have it coded, I don't really think it is a big enough thing to have to worry about "fixing" it so I left it.

IshiXP: Vroom as in the sound kids make when they play with toy cars (or anything that moves fast), "F" as in a grade.
Nali: Or maybe it was rocketShip.. you know how confusing the meaning of that word can be :sure: Or how about "experimental"... that sounds DIRTY!!!! Seriously though, I don't get why it would be filter blocked, there is absolutely nothing on there adult or ****ographic.

Close? Or no cigar? yeah, that's one location you can change. what i was talking about, actually was when you move the spaceship, when it moves off either the right or bottom edge, you mod the location, and it appears in the opposite side. now the i think of it, when you move off the left or upper, that mod won't work, so you're probably better off with what you have. and also, since i'm a nut for optimization, changing that code you had above is in fact one. if you notice, your first code has a condition that it must have, then it can either take one of two paths, whereas with the modulus operator, it is indifferent with the value, so nothing is tested. this is in fact quite useful when you're dealing with loads of similar conditions.

Thor: Thanks! And yeah I thought about using modulo for resetting the location when it passes out of the borders but I couldn't get it to work right so I stuck with that method. I did, as you saw, get modulo working for the levels of bubbles, that was an easy one to figure out. Thanks for the tip-off on that, I would have never thought to use modulo in place of that had you not had me scope out my code. I am real bad at optimization :P
[m]: It's got curves like an hourglass.... oh ... err... I mean thanks :)
EG: Wow really? And here I gave it an "F" because I didn't think it was that great, hehehe, I guess it's just because it's kind of askew from my standard type of experiments (which are usually not so good either most of the time :P ).
I need to be more creative.... I am having ideas on my next experiment, but it's still in planning mode.
