And I like this senator :sure: bust be a real genius!
Last week, a US senator said he wanted to develop new technology which would remotely destroy the computers of people who illegally download music tracks.

It would be pretty cool to have a tomahawk missile aimed directly at your comp and fired from a nearby carrier :) I wonder if the gov't will pay for any collateral damage that will be caused to your home...and possibly yourself!

he's talking about a virus...connecting and downloading certain tagged files would initiate a virus...the first few times it would give a warning...after so many...it starts disabling your system...
fun eh?

yup - like ghosts in starcraft - the red dot on your pootah'
harhar government sending viruses to people who KNOW A HELL LOT MORE about computers than they do. With a bit of luck it will be virii made by Microsoft. What a great fun it will be to see a virus on your computer - then actually the virus crashes.. :trout:
fun time ahead

if every single compter in the government system crashed at the same time for 1 hour, the US and more would probably erupt into riots and stuff.

is this Orin Hatch you're talking about? he is a retard who doesn't know what he's talking about. He stated that he is planning on developing software or a way, rather, to destroy a pirate's computer; i mean literally destroy it as in the sparks and mini-explosions. after this, he turned to developers and asked if that was even possible. how stupid. he probably doesn't even know how to work his own computer, if he has one at all.
edit: and if he does find a way (very unlikely), i'm sure other developers out there will create methods of neutralizing it.

I LOVE this idea. Except I want to be the one to write the code for the virus.
What I'd do is make it so you can't turn off the Windows action sounds, and then I'd replace them all with "Stop Stealing Music, you A-hole."
So every time you started up, minimized something, or looked at your computer funny, ---- "Stop Stealing Music, you A-hole."
Also, there's be a little bitty thing at the bottom.
if=member of Kirupa.Com make computer immune to all virii

Edit: (I use KaZaA, E-Mule, and IRC. I hope they don't find my stash of... .... linux images....)

you can write software code that will do actual physical damage to the chips on the motherboard
Aislin
June 28th, 2003, 12:03 AM
yeah. and you can do code that will damage your hard drive when it's erasing faster than the speed of light. lol. prstudio eh... have you been away awhile, or just keeping a low profile. you seem... ......not .... here... a lot...

being that the xbox ix capable of going Live! with the cable modem this means that it has IP settings.
If you are running a shared high speed internet connection
and have for example the cable modem plugged up, and then the signal going into your computer via USB cable, then have another straight cat5 (ethernet cable) running out of your NIC card in the back of the PC to the main of the hub, plug the xbox using a straight cable(use straight cause its direct to hub, crossover cable is for direct pc to xbox) to the first available spot in the hub
the NIC card is now your gateway interface to the internet
and the xbox is like a regular pc on a network
the cable modem via usb is supplying the "feed"
now usually you have to run a proxy software to assign IP addresses on this ghetto network - avirt soho is a great program for this
but i believe if you have an ftp program you can enter in the IP address of the XBOX and direct connect that way... I'm seeing that the FTP program FlashFXP is a tried and true friend with the XBOX - on the settings on the XBOX grab the IP and the subnet mask ex (IP192.168.4.1 subnet 255.255.255.0) - then enter these into the connect box of the FlashFXP program -
try connecting-
also you may try hooking up the cable modem, then running a cat5 from it to the main on the hub, then plug in your computer to slot 3 and the xbox to slot 4 - then ftp to it that way
those are two ways off the top of my head, id test it out myself, but the house xbox isnt here right now, it will be back in a few days and i can test it for you then...if i think of a new way, or see something ill let you know
it can be done

Please don't discuss pirated software on the boards. We don't judge you for using it, but it's against the rules to go so far as you just have.

Further talk of illegal software could lead to banning, so if I were you I would watch myself. This forum is strict against illegal software, Kirupa shouldn't pay the penalities of your own carelessness. And that is no joke.
Unlike this senator guy, who is a complete joke. A senator who freely admits he is willing to break the law to stop file sharing. Real productive way to go about it sir, how about you murder all the people in your villiage, it might stop crime!

I think there will be more legal issues than they would want to deal with if they started damaging PC's for D/L'ing music or whatever... They would be breaking US law anyway. I don't think this will happen at all. Sounds like it could be interpreted as a violation of unreasonable search and seizure.
Cheers!
