so from past times in here I didn't go down well... (yes... not very well :) )

So now I have improved my CSS skill's and made a web design hopefully to use on my site :D

Here it is: http://strokemymouse.com/design1

So what do you think (be easy on me :) )

Thanks!

First off, that interface is way too small and gives out the impression that the site will hold none to a little valuable content, when finished.

I like the pink splotches over the gray. I'm actually a fan of that combo. So that's more of a personal preference there.

The heading, "STROKEMYMOUSE", I'd suggest be an image. If not, at least write it a little bit lower (like 20-24px) so that the splotches can look more "random" and not deliberately put in pattern. Plus, a little bit of free space will make it look neater. And use a more condensed font like Helvetica or Arial at the same size. It should definitely look better than that Verdana you're using.

Verdana is fine for everything else.

The nav is well placed. So that's a plus.

For the actual content (the lorem ipsum thing), I'd suggest increasing the left and right margin/padding by another 5px on both sides at least. Right now, the text seems to stick to the borders too much and creates a chaotic setup.

And that smaller "STROKEMYMOUSE" at the bottom is just non-sensical. What's the purpose of that?

All in all, a very solid improvement and a good try at trendwhore styling.

Not feeling the pink on the gray, the contrast is way too big and the pink is kinda hard on the eyes. Second: you need padding, the way you present your text isn't too good. Third: I would try a different font, I'm not feeling the font you are using and as Phoenix pointed out the "STROKEMYMOUSE" on the bottom is non-sensical, it has no purpose ( or at least, I can't see it's purpose ).

Ok, thanks for the comments :D

I will make this design a little bit bigger, put the STROKEMYMOUSE text into the image, and make the font Helvetica.

I am thinking of putting blue & pink ink platters on the header and footer, would that be a good idea? Ill do a mock up to see how it goes :D

Looking good... But here's the second can of Whoop Tushy!

i) Your navigation is gone... Except for the word "Naviagation"

ii) What's the point in having an image for the header when all it has is text written in Arial? That could be done just right-aligning the "STROKEMYMOUSE" title. :P When I said image, I meant making something elaborate and with a logo or somethin...

The bigger interface looks cool. Make it longer too? :egg:

i)Yea, I was in a slight rush to post it on here :D

ii)Oh, right. Lol, I will dig out the logo i used a while back :) and i will remove the text from the image.

iii) no need to make it longer :D It is on auto so when more text is added it gets longer

So basically if you add an image of Scarlet Johanson in there, it grows a footlong?

Still needs padding, much more padding... And well, the colors didn't change too much, and it's still hard on my eyes... + The navigation is gone... Hmmm.....

The navigation hasn't gone... Its just been replaced as its a mockup. just read http://www.kirupa.com/forum/showpost.php?p=2177081&postcount=9

the colours arn't hard on my eyes........ and i've used the shame shade of pink a while ago in a few other designs and no-one complained

I've seen the exact same pink/gray combo being used in super classy ads in top name magazines.

I will like to add though, the "gray" there is usually a "gray" photographic background which adds to the depth.

But I think it's cool as it is.

Lookin cool.

Get rid of the pink on the nav links though. ;)

And by padding I meant, the "STROKEMYMOUSE" header and the main "Lorem ipsum" text should be aligned equally vertically... Ooops, I spilled the beans :|

danulf

the Strokemymouse header doesn't seem quite right. Maybe write it out. Stroke My Mouse or something... I also think the whole site is too far down, and the pink is a bit hard on the eyes, maybe tone it down just a little bit?

chrisclick
July 21st, 2007, 05:13 PM

danulf

So what do you think (be easy on me :) )

^np...

increase the line height... in the css

looks better than the old one

your nav is too small crunched up....
uhmmm... trying opting out for image headers maybe? or even change the background color of the text rather than the text( on rollover)

bring down the nav about 20pixels for now..OR raise the font size....

nice pink and blue really sexy...like i said about your footer.

also I don't see a freaking MOUSE!!!!!! HOw can I stroke your mouse if I can't see it...damn...what the heck...whoops sorry about that--LOL

.
So what do you think (be easy on me :) )
^forgot

But seriously just put a mouse in your fav icon or at least on your contact page in a nice design way to give the user a funny rewarding feeling when they say ---"oh wow I found his mouse" and also if you want to go the full nine yards make it so they can stroke it... makes me think should I try to make a flash creature that can be stroked...hmmm

also how long will you be checking this thing I have to go eat and want to know when I come back should I go looking for this thread or not?

chrisclick

i doubt it will be done in that amount of time... sounds like i got work to do

made the nav bigger
added a mouse
nav background color changes on rollover

and I can't wait till you put content
on a lighter note cheers kid, I haven't even updated my site yet so you are on a better track than me..
