"kirupa" logo battle anybody??

in the logo battle thread... an idea came up i thought was pretty cool... a logo design contest...

programs used: any (interesting twist to it)
deadline: i dunno what sounds fair to people.... come up with it..

i guess another thing would be not to make it enormously huge so people can view it without taking a long time to download or whatever...

i guess any dimensions you want... hey maybe if kirupa agrees to it... whoever wins... their logo will be used on the site somewhere?... i dunno up to him i guess.... but if that is the case then the dimensions would have to be reasonable to fit on the site... hmm when a mod sees this i guess we can make all the official decisions

Cool I am in, but shouldn't a logo be a little more... rectangular? I mean a square logo that big doesn't exactly look good on the page... and I am guessing that it will be judged upon how good it looks? Mine will be a still image though, I'm no good at Flash :)

400 x 400 the working area, do watever u want to do in that, rectangle, square, oval,circle anything goes ok? I thot 400X 400 is good enough canvas(working area) size to work on, not more, not less, it's medium sized i d' say...

Hmmm... i d still opt for a squarish working area, remember we are making a logo, not a desktop background =)

If we are making a logo in photoshop u can check for the resolution in the image property and if it's in flash u can use image export and there u can set the resolution and same goes for other softwares.

I was thinking of using any other images, tracing them n other stuff, can we do it or it has to b totally done by tools, not talking about using some other images directly, like background effect and all... wich can b created by filters too, rite?

are you saying it has to be exactly 500x500, or be anywhere within 500x500... and about the tools only things... no outside images... for flash anyway... i dont know how difficult it would be to make a logo without images in photoshop...

Anywhere with in 500 X 500, Lets take a dimension of 500 X 500 and make anything wich is big enough to b viewed easily, 500 X 500 is the boundry area or image size and in between we can make a logo (any viewable size)

Fine no outside images then and i use the mix of photoshop and flash, this is an image battle rite?( no flash animation, no animated gif's)

wait no animations? lol then why use flash at all... i dont really know photoshop... i figured with the any software rule it pretty much meant anything goes... but i dunno... if photoshop people want animation without flash gifs seem fine to me... but i dunno lets see what other people think

Ya no amination and ya, flash coz u can create some easy images wid all the smooth tools + they are vector.... tht's how i make stuff, mix n match =)

aww lol i really wanted to do animation.... i'm no good at line art with flash, and i suck at photoshop... hehe i was gonna rely on my coding skills and put some interactivity in there... plus when i started this battle... i intended for it to be anything goes (if you look at my first post) i said any programs... but i wasnt thinking restrictions were gonna be put on them (besides dimensions of the final product of course)... and flash you seem to be tryin to make this a photoshop/lineart battle... i dunno if it comes down to that then im out i guess... sorry

heh sorry if i was mean or anything... i was just looking forward to trying some ideas i had... thanks for understanding and stuff... didnt mean to be pushy or anything... but i thought the anything goes thing would make it a fun battle... seeing what people would come up with, without restrictions... i suppose since you are letting me deicde though... the only restriction would be the dimensions of the final thing... anything within 500x500 sound alright? or should it be bigger? i dont know what you photohop people need or whatever... and regarding photoshop... since its anything goes outside images are alright too... forget all that stuff earlier heh... so now... lets make the guidelines set...

how about when voting begins we have people take into consideration say look at the work put into it and how good it looks for its type... like i mean just because something is animated doesnt mean its better than a still image...

You can keep out the vector image and go wid animated and still, so everyone will post an swf file 500X500 and a jpg image of 500X500
To complete their post, i am in for that too =)

i like the idea and scoot if we opt for that,surely animated is better thn still(Flash over HTML) so we have to complete the post by posting 2 files(swf and jpg) agn that's another option (i m never out of advices:P ) But dont mind me and nox, our battles take somuch time to even start at times:P heheh

How about if participants submit both a still and animated logo? You can set a time limit for the duration of the intro animation. then it will turn into a still image? Sound good?

All right, I haven't read everything, but to me, a logo is something static. If you're talking about a small trailer, an intro, that would be animated. So which one will it be? It could be both, as cybergold said :)

- (should we just make the short animation sequence a different battle? or should we incorporate it into this one and ask everyone to submit both a static, and an animated logo?)

Want to add? Detract? We could turn this into something big, and make a banner, logo, and short animated sequence, pretty much the whole package, or we could keep it simple and stick to the logo itself :) good luck, i'm out of ideas.

pom and Syko, i dont kno i was talkin about dimensions and everything and i clearly suggested no animation,but scoot man said he wants to make an interactive one, go on read my posts guys, i have never ever seen an interactive logo and now we are talking about a kirupa motto line? hey lets make it optional or if ppl think they have a good punch line, let them adjust it in their image or swf file, watever u guys decide, but if we r gona have swf used, we shud make it strictly flash if not then strickly jpg image of same dimension, use any softwares to make a logo, punch line is optional... Come on pom u decide, all i can know is we can not compete wid a jpg image and others have a swf interactive logo, choose 1 and lets go wid it, ya i also suggested posting 2 things(that ll complete ur post and make u a qualified participent) Upto u guys, we need someone senior to finalize it now, pom or syko.

ok if we want this to actually happen we will have to come to an agreement. The Idea of having an interactive logo doesn't work. Logos are usually vector images so they can be scale able and they are use to give an identity to a company or individual product (they don't include a slogan). Now I'm sure people will object to make it vector only so I say let them be either raster or vector. The other problem I see with this Idea is we are not sure Kirupa would like the Idea of other people coming up with a logo under the name kirupa. Just In case he doesn't I suggest we do the battle using your self (screen name) , your web site or maybe let each individual come up with a fictitious company. I haven't participated in any battles and this would be a great one to start with.

dang lol turning into a static image thing again... mind if i make a suggestion?... how about we keep cyber's idea about ficticious company or screen name or whatever... he has a good point not to use kirupa's name without his permission... but lets make it any type of advertisement we want for it... be it a logo, banner, even a popup style ad... any type of advertisement you can think of... and the original rules of anything goes stay...

anybody like this idea? (just a suggestion lol)
