I've been wondering for a while now - what exactly is meant by "Shocked Resource", as displayed in a lot of the page ttiles? I've been trying to figure out it's intended definition, but I just don't get it.

Also, what sort of SEO/Advertising do you carry out (if any)?
Kirupa.com has an Alexa traffic ranking of 8,422, which is pretty impressive, yet I can't see active promotion or search engine optimisation outside of the site itself. Obviously this is a good thing, as it means the site is generating large amounts of traffic on its own, I just thought it might be nice to get even more!

For example, Kirupa.com doesn't even appear in the top 20 for a google search of "Flash Forum". I'd half expected it to be number 1!

Kirupa said in an interview with some people somewhere that he didn't really work on SEO and relied on word of mouth.

Yeah - like blazes said, I do not do any type of promotion or SEO optimization. For the most part, if you type in search keywords related to a technical topic covered on this site, this site's content will be among the top results returned. I am not interested in having this site display in the top results when users actually searched for something else. The way I see it, life is too short to worry about gaming search engines. As long as search engines still place sites with relevant content ahead of the pack, it's all good.

Regarding the title and use of the word "Shocked", it just sounded cool. The titled used to be "Shocked Flash Resource...", and the word Shocked is a reference to Shockwave which was really big back in the day when this site was launched. The forum's title doesn't even contain the word forum. I will change it to something else, if possible, besides the default "Powered by vBulletin" :P

Also, regarding the Alexa rating, I would take it with a grain of salt. Their approach towards measuring traffic is based largely on users who have the Alexa toolbar installed. It only takes a few users with the Alexa Toolbar to drastically alter the rankings. For example, this site's pageviews (as measured by the internal stat software) have gone up quite a bit over the past year, yet the Alexa ranking went from around 4k to the current 8k.

^ Just a little question, but how many pageviews do you get a month?

Around 2.7 million pageviews. That doesn't include most of the forums, so the number might be a bit higher.

Hm. I'd be interested to see reports based on that. I also host with MT, and might be hosting a very nice size project with them very soon, and would love to see how 2.5 million page views a month contributes to bandwidth problems and ad revenue given that you don't promote at all.

I'm just assuming you're on a dedicated server? Which plan? What percentage of your allotted bandwidth does that number use? Have you ever had to consider a content delivery service (such as Amazon's S3 service)? Were you ever on a Shared server? Were there issues?

Sorry for the assault of question, just very intrigued now that I know exactly how "popular" this site is.
