Don't use iFrames.
Don't have a 'skip intro' button unless you hold no value for your own work.
Better yet, just don't have an intro.
Don't autoplay the music.

But most importantly, don't post your own site in Kool Sites.

I'm honestly flabbergasted that someone would ever suggest to REMOVE a 'skip intro' button. You have to be kidding me. It's one of those web usability conventions that I thought people agreed on - you always have the bloody skip intro button if you choose to have an intro. :stare:

^agreed... if you dont have a skip intro button i wont view your site. if i like your site i might go back and view it but im not going to have someone tell me that im GOING to watch something on my own computer (my universe i have control over...). the only way that is justified is if it is absolutely necessary is if you lose a vital communication element.

Better yet, just don't have an intro. agreed, or put it in the site but not called intro, something like trailer etc that is optional.

Don't autoplay the music.

dude... read the about section, its a musical artist, youd have to be retarded to not auto start the music on any music based site such as a band or artist site its simple self promotion.

I agree with you in part, but my point wasn't that the site would be better without a skip intro button.

As you say, "It's one of those web usability conventions that I thought people agreed on". So everyone's agreed therefore that if soemone has an intro to their site, that everyone wants a skip intro button. So what we're actually saying is "If you have an intro, we really don't wan't to see it".

And the fact that the maker has included a 'skip intro' button just says "hey, this bit isn't worth looking at, and I know that everyone wants to skip it".

Obviously the preferred solution is to get rid of the flash intro completely. Its completely not needed, and this is strengthened by the fact that even the person who made it recognizes that people dont want it by giving them the option to ignore it. Are there 'skip music', 'skip content', 'ignore my hard work' buttons? No. So either you get rid of it (yes please!), or if you insist on having it, then at least intergrate it into the site, and have a reason for it being there, so that including a 'skip intro' button isn't neccessary.

I think you'd have to be retarded to think that autoplaying is mandatory.

Windows Media Player/iTunes etc are built for the sole purpose of viewing/listening to movies/music, even more so than this musicians website. Does WMP/iTunes autoplay anything when you start it? NO! Do I have the ability to move my mouse a few hundred pixels to the play button on this website IF I want to listen to it? Yes. Do people who listen to music at their PC want to be rudely interrupted with some unrequested autoplaying cacophony? No. Do those people not listening to music at their PC have a soul? No, so they don't matter.

not bad, but i have a small dislike for those kinds of menus. and the buttons would look better as bitmaps, not vectors:D

I totally disagree. A skip intro button says, "Hey, this is a cool intro - but if you're just looking for some meaty content and aren't in the mood to kick back and enjoy yourself, I'm not going to waste your time."

It's an option, if you like intros and have time, you watch it, if you don't, you skip it. It's lovely. :beam:

Bah, intros are a waste of time.

Sure, but if you've got time to waste and it's an interesting intro, they can keep you entertained and help the site's marketing and branding.

Yeah, I see what your saying, but I can categorically say that in the last 4 years, if I've been to a website and the first page has a 'skip intro' button, I will always click it.

And my point is this: I've clicked to skip that intro without knowing anything about it or what it contains. There's a small chance it might have actually been awesome. But the fact that there's an option to skip it just tells me it's not worth watching. I'm not skipping the intro because I cant be bothered with it and there's an option to skip it. I'm skipping the intro because there's a skip intro button. If there wasn't a button, sure, I wouldn't have the option to skip it, but I wouldn't want to skip it, because it would be an actual part of the site, rather than some tacky piece of flash crap that's been bolted on to the start of a perfectly good website.

hi - understand your point and perhaps this is more for selfish reasons for people like the artist or their label etc - who have to view the site regularly versus other viewers...we like building long flash intros but also understand that for various reasons some people like to 'cut to the chase'

also the site was posted in Showcase and Critiques - not Kool Sites...so we're not trying to say this is the best site out there - merely trying to use the thread for what it's for...

in this case it's pretty small in terms of the intro...as an agency have adopted an internal standard of having a skip intro partly for legacy reasons (we used to build some extremley long intros ) eg...

http://www.criminalclothing.com/aw05/flash.php

at the end of the day we ended up with the skip option for various reasons....

Did you post as a Kool site or did you want critique?

Anyways, vertical text is hard to read when it is moving around, if you know what I mean. And red bg color for the vertical text doesn't match very well, and the fonts don't match also.

Otherwise, beautiful. (I mean the site. :shifty:)
