I stick to PC, but I wouldn't mind a mac to use on the side. . . .
By the way, what is skint?

That's awesome. But what you going to use it for? Making multimedia no one else can use cause you have to have a computer as fast as the G5. or playing games? You now have 8 to choose from since the Warcraft 3 expansion is coming out July 1.
They've got the hardware, now they need to get some software (and vid. cards) to go with it. Also, how much is it gonna cost?

Hey mario wazzap?? how's the baby (your real daughter not your ibook lol ;) )
we've missed you man, wazzap wit dat??
well heres what i think bro so dont get offended ok?? its all good ;)
looks nice and pretty like all macs do but i gotta test it in order to believe its better, we have a dual processor g4 at work and it couldnt open a 350 mb psd i made in photoshop on my amd 1.8 ghz at 300dpi it said it needed more memory and both computers have 512 o ram so i really dont know whats the diffrence, i use macs i even own one and im not going to argue which is best, i use both to have variety but i cant believe everything i read, till i test it out and see a real diffrence, i wont waste $2,000 bucks on a new computer, then again thats just me.

hey grim! daisy mai is fine and coming on well! ive got a powerbook, not an ibook!(im a professional you know!lol)
as for macs, it really depends on how the systems are set up - at work we use single processor g4's and they can handle files larger than 350mb easily! being used to macs the specs for the machine really exite me - 1GHz frontside bus on each chip, man thats some serious bandwidth!oh, dont get me started.....
not sure on the looks - but im sure they will grow on me!

I've got some questions about Macs.
*Hehe, just noticed, "Macs" sounds like "Max"*
Anyways, is the only difference between the G5 and G4 the processor speed? Is there any operating system change?
Macs weren't my favorite and still isn't. The first mac I used is when I was in elementary school. Thats when my hatred begun. Since then, never liked macs and not much appreciation for the people that use them. Not saying I hate mariofan or anything.

g4 and g5 = processor speed. They are all running (probobly) os X

Never got the entire "OS X" thing, why can't they just name it simple, like, 98, 20000, or 2003???

Panther is coming out too 10.3 - The G5 is also 64-bit (as opposed to 32) Theres a lot of memory and bandwidth improvement along with it too... theres a lot to drool over. I cant wait to test out a panthered G5. Im dying to see how far theyve come in this jump. Nonetheless, my next computer will be a PC.

This is sweet and plus they didn't jack the premier price (pretty much the same as the debut of the G4)

You really should ...
esp w/ OSX, which is now the most stable and versatile OS on theee planet ... basically it's another flavor of UNIX
...I find that most detractors are in that class not unlike the guys that put the stickers of that kid peeing on the *other* brand - most of whom are barely likely to qualify for an opinion much less criticism :sure:

Heh, i like the stickers of the guy peeing on stuff.
I've got nothing against macs. I just don't like them cause they can't do what I use computers for. They've only got about a dozen good games you can play. Plus, I'm just so windows oriented, that I prob. couldn't use them. Gates has me for life I think.

... I know not and care not for games so can't personally vouch for it there (tho I've heard contrary)... admittedly would be less than windows but "12" sounds a bit exagerated

Or XP, or NT, or ME or something... :P
X = 10 in roman numerals
OS X = OS 10
Not very hard to figure out as Mac OS HAs gone from one through nine before the release of OS X.
Easy peasy.

Actually. The G5's aren't actually 'faster' than the better PC's.
I wouldn't know why, but to me, Brett Larson's word is law. And he said it.

They arent really lying - they're just trying to make things look good in their favor. Everyone does it - there was even that recent broo-ha-ha about the Nvidia tests and how they were 'rigged' or whatever.
When companies try to make themselves look good with specs, they'll try to make themselves look good.

Look at this two ways...
1. All three processors are cars equiped with NAS tanks (ala fast and the furious :) ). They are all lined up but before the race, the Mac goes and cuts the AMD and Pentium cars NAS lines so it wont work. Then they race and the Mac wins because he used his NAS to blow away the others. Now if you look at the tests done, the G5's were set up to their absolute full potential and the AMD and Pentium were used at Minimum compacity. Not really Fair because they turned off the the hyper threading on the P4 chips.
2. Also they compared 2 proccessors (dual G5's) to ONE Pentium 4 without hyper threading and turned off the multimedia instruction set - bull ****.
There is no denying that it's fast - but not as great as they have said that's for sure.

The Article==Total Obfuscation,
He so cleverly prefaced with [paraphrased] *I  Macs*...for effect... :sure:
These were strict independant tests performed according to standards that cannot be tampered with and still legally claim the results. (read the criteria from the standards inst.)
Actually look at it this way:
"hyperthreading" is the unfair boost that was disabled 'only' on the dual processor tests because that is a dual simulator (NoX) where there was none onboard the G5 in either test ... so it is not *the G5 having nox and the others without* but rather none of them at all during the dual tests and yet the pentium and xeon were kept with hyperthread on during the single tests ... allowing a decided edge to them at that point (that's what it's for)
(read the linked article - "hyperthreading" does boost single processor results) ... (why did he claim the opposite???)
A thorough Read of this guys sources/links [and not just take his word for it] is necessary.
The bottom line in my view is that with an average of 50% greater processor ghz capacity (3.x vs 2.0) allowed on the pentium and xeon in addition to a greater amnt of ram in each one, the G5 still held good marks and in deeper analysis is far faster **per GHZ**
A must to be considered that there is far more to accomplishing a task than raw HP... one also needs the effective transmission, (getting the power from the engine to the wheels so to speak) cache, bus and main memory architecture, etc.
True through-put is a net result not just a clock on one component.
toBoot - it's Funny ... this guy *only* quotes the most immature hate mail he could find !?! [or conjure up] and even argues whether or not a chettah is faster than a panther :sure: ... he misread that other guys remarks alltogether - as if a naming convention is even relevent to the case anyway.
I read it through (the 'other' test data/links) ... I'll be happy w/a G5 :beam:
