Hey! I just got a trial version of Photoshop CS3 and I haven't had any experience with Photoshop before, so forgive me if this question is stupid.

I was drawing a path, and then I modified it with a border of about 5 pixels. When I filled it in with a solid color, it appeared to be feathered. I checked in a lot of settings and set every "feather" option to 0 pixels, yet it still appeared to have feathered edges. Is there another way to fill paths that only fills the inside of the selected area without feathering the edges?

feathered edges - check your brush stroke style? if your using the pen tool for paths and it comes up with "feathered" edges, it means its pixels, because pen tool paths which are vector are just pure smooth

pen tool?
yeah, that's what it's called...it's the one that looks like the fancy pen tips that you dip in ink...they're quite spiffy.

i tried messing with the brush stroke styles, but i still came up with similar results. i also put a vector mask on the layer i was using...i wonder what on earth is going on?

Here's exactly what I did:

1. As shown in the picture below, I took the regular brush tool and drew an "8" to the left as a reference.
2. I then took the pen tool and drew a similar figure to the right.
3. I clicked on the "Paths" panel, right-clicked, and chose "make a selection..."
4. With the option "anti-alias" off (switching it on appeared to make virtually no difference) and the "new selection" radio button selected (there was no other option), I pressed okay.
5. Next I went to Layer>Modify>Border... with a radius of 6 pixels.***
6. Then I just used the fill tool.

This is what it ends up looking like:

Once again, the brush tool is to the left and the pen tool is on the right.

***I believe my error is in step five, so I'll rephrase the question. Is there another way to do this without using the border option?

**** that looks terrible

Use the pen tool
Stroke = Non
Fill = None

Draw a 8 and when you meet the last point with the pen tool (last anchor thing) it will join up, you see a light gray line illustrating your drawn 8, with pen tool still on right click in the 8 area, make selection, click bucket, click black click fill

That will give you a vector 8

Maybe I missed something here. Try this.
• Draw an 8 with the Pen tool
• Choose a smooth brush shape (maybe a 5 pixel smooth brush as opposed to the 5 pixel soft brush)
• In the Paths panel choose Stroke path.
• From the resulting dropdown menu, choose brush (if it's not already selected).
• You're done
