Hi,

This is the test version of the new interface and presentation medium I have been working on for my noponies.com site.

You can have a look here: http://www.noponies.com (http://www.noponies.com/)

I have used a few of the sample bits of AS off of here, the scroller by Claudio and the minus.dk fullscreen image display clone. So thanks to all who contributed the little bits of the jigsaw.

Still some things to iron out, but it's mostly working as I want it to.

Edit - Lightened up the the nav a little, and changed the elastic bounce to an easeoutexpo.

Some of the illustrations are R18

I don't like the nav. Way to dark.

Yep, that was one of the things to change around...

The elastic tween when the pics drop down is a bit out of control.

And just a warning to others not to look at this at a strict office, some of those illustrations are NSFW.

Looks cool though.

nice yeh i see you've seen the fullscreen image thingy in experiments forum...Runs very nice...i might use it for myself.

Other than that choose a different font for logo and menu...too dark and very ugly compared to the illustrations and your work.

Cheers

This kind of a folio should be overflowing with colors and beautifully placed elements. Which it is not.

As Flash Man said, better fonts, MUCH better colors and placement. And about that vertical nav. Add some gradient at the top and the bottom so that the thumbnails strip doesn't "clip" at the browser edges.

Make the full-view window's presentation more elegant. Right now it looks a little too exaggerated and cartoonish with the elastic thing. Make it classy. :thumb2:

Other than that, I think this site has some serious potential. Keep it up!

^ what is nsfw?

^^ generally its a good and decent navigation..... the menu on the left is a little too dark and hard to see, the spring effect on the pictures is a bit too strong, if u would like to keep it try decrease the amount of the effect, if not, maybe have it fade in or something like that.
i did like the way the pictures loaded though, quite different from most other sites' ones.

Hi,

Thanks for all the comments...

I have had a running internal argument with myself over the font choice. I originally had the nav set in a very tech/minimal face (Satellite from t26.com - which I actually brought for the site), but ended up using a font I designed (the cartoon font).

I'll lighten up the interface in any event, I think my screen tends to make darks, seem light. And with some reflection, tone down some of the elastic bouncing and maybe just use a normal ease in for the image menu, but keep the large images boucing in behind the mask.

Again, thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated.

I should have mentioned, some of the illustrations are R18.

It should fit, the swf is 800 pixels high...

I love the WHOLE THING! its such a great site! very expressive in my opinion. And it matches very well with your artistic style! Great job!

I added in some javascript/Flash communication to get the viewport height, so, if you have a smaller screen, the layout adjusts slightly to accommodate that. Anyone on a 1024x768 screen should see everything fine, any less than that though...

Anyway, I moved it to my sites root, so its all live now..

I think it looks good but you should lighten up the nav and name.

overall i do like it....

one thing that noone has mentioned that was striking to me, is that once you click a thumb and the image comes up... it comes in large, with the option to view in full screen... when i click on something that says "full screen" i expect to be able to see it at a higher resolution and scale, yet yours shrinks down???

not sure if that is on purpose, but it seems like it would defeat the purpose of having it at full screen, when in most cases, the scaled image you set for "full screen" would have fit in your initial preview window???

hope that made sense... lol this grad program im in is kicking my butt

on second look, i guess its not that way for all of them, i suppose nevermind, just the few that i saw that were like that threw me off.

Hey,

Yeah they load in full size, but sit behind that mask. Depending on your screensize when you hit fullscreen, they can seem smaller. I should probably change it to "view all" or something like that.. Basically the masked image is a preview, then to see it all you click fullscreen.

I added the panning of the thumbnail back in. Took me a bit to figure out how to get it to work with a dynamic clip, but in the end..

Hey man, I really liked it! Any chance of posting the FLA?

The double column thumbnail scroller is very nice!

slampa - don't take the piss, that's his current site, he shouldn't post the FLA.

dail - I like the site a lot. Simple, slick, but bold. Nice and not minimalist :D Yet still nicely simple and to the point, and fairly functional.

One thing though - the illustrations I clicked got smaller when I clicked fullscreen, I was obviously expecting to see enlargements with more detail :)

Is this on purpose?

I love the site. As it is now, I don't see anything wrong with it thought I didn't try to see if I could break it or anything.

:D

Well yeah, obviously. I was just curious of how he implemented the scroller. And also, if he's using Claudio's scroller and the minus.dk clone from another thread, you know, there shouldn't be that many surprises in the code. With everything being open source and all (I'm assuming some creative commons license). But hey, I'm just taking a piss.

And yes, I could have been more clear regarding the code for the implementation fo the scroller. A cut n paste of that snippet would be nice but if he want's to keep it - no biggie.

Oh, and I think that the fullscreen actually is a feature and not a bug :) And I agree - I also expected to se a zoomed in image. Maybe use the term Overview instead of Fullscreen?

Anyhoo, nice work!

Taking a piss :D

What is Claudio's scroller and munus.dk clone?

By the way I thought you meant the source of his entire site, as you didn't specify, and that would have been a fairly odd request :D

@ darkmotion - your res might be set to 1440 x 900 but with all that crap (tool bars, bookmarks, finder bar) you've got visible as part of your browser you're cutting your vertical viewing space down to 652px not 900px.

by the way you might wanna get rid of that www.littleboys.com bookmark before screen shooting again. haha jk

just a heads up.

even @ 900 high you are still going to lose at least 60 px stripped down. I never have those toolbars out- I expand and collapse them whenever I need. Things NEED to be designed to work at the minimum resolution, so it should actually work at 1024x768 anyway ;)

also this is a major thread revival so you now look like dorks yay!

I like this a good bit. A little dizziness-inducing, but nice. Usability is a kinda iffy, but I think the novelty of the whole thing makes it an ok trade-off.
A tiny little thing- maybe speed up the navbar "menu-item-text-back-to-mouseoff-state-alpha-change" thing? It feels a little sluggish. (and people say computer talk makes no sense...)
