OK i just made this: http://www.freewebs.com/petersweb/temp.swf
None of the stuff moves. I did this in flash because it is soo. hard to make in html.

If the link does not work paste the URL in the URL bar.

All this really is is a drawing of a terrible HTML page. There is no point for that to be in flash and the reason you give is a really bad one! I think you need to put in a little more effort.

grrr... jeff. GET OUT OF YOUR BOX! Look at some good sites and try to copy one. yes you heard me COPY ONE. Make a post in 2 days showing me a best attempt copy of a site you liked and place a link to the original site. no coding is needed, just go for a graphic. try to use the same text if you can figure out what it is. GO FOR IT!

I will give you huge props if you do this, and you will learn a LOT!

I almost feel like this is a joke or something. I think you need to spend more time looking at tutorials and playing around in photoshop and less time posting "templates" this board. I don't think you're going to get anything out of the 'critique' of a bunch of people telling you to read more, spend more time, and look at more example sites, which is really all that people can say other than "it sucks" which have been what most of the comments have deteroitated into on the last few threads I've seen.

I'm not trying to be harsh, everyone has been where you are. God knows I have. My first attempts at site designs were HORRIBLE. But there is no point in posting something you made in paint or flash that you KNOW looks nothing like what a 'good' site includes, and something that you've spent less than an hour working on.

In each of these threads people have given you links to collections of websites that you should look at and try to emulate. And yet you keep posting these 'templates'. I don't get it.

trust me flash is a thousand times harder than html for a starter so as someone said above copy a good site and start again...also don't use paint or something similiar for template files atleast make the template using photoshop or dreamweaver if doing html...or just go to www.templatemonster.com and buy one...there not much ;)

Jeff, stop all your designing immediately and take a look at some example sites out there. Then compare them to what you just posted. And I mean compare it good. If you still don't get it, then you should probably get another hobby.

I just want to point something out, and I may be wrong. jeffonfire, is this your homepage: http://www.freewebs.com/petersweb/ ?
If so, it is far superior to anything you have posted so far. I'm not familiar with freewebs.com, but if that's just a template they provide, then ignore my comment.

jeffonfire, I think it's time to take it slowly, there's no race to win here. What you're showing us is rushed and does not express any degree of creativity. This is not because you lack creativity by any means, it is because you are not taking the time to consider your goals. I'll be brief, as my comment may be ignored:

1. take 1 month starting today and make a goal to finish this website by the end of that month. From today, get a sketch book and start drawing, anything. Lines, shapes, nature, anything that interests you.

2. Pick one thing that really interested you while drawing. Base your site concept on that.

3. Make your site structure on paper first, then slowly take it to the computer. TAKE YOU TIME.

4. If one month is already up and you're not satisfied, take another week or two.

jeffonfire, it takes many of us months to build a site. I've been working on several for the last five years and I'm still not satisifed with them. Moral of the story, take your time and post when you are ready. You're asking for it by posting simple line art of squares and gradients.

this is what i do, i go to a few websites that i like, pick out some elements(menu, side bar) i like form each one, try and put them together, figure out witch ones look good together, then i stat to think of cool color schemes to go with the elements. then i go and make lots and lots of mockups in photoshop. then i code up a xhtml and css version of the site.

flash sites i do the same but instead i write down, all the effects i would like to have

As much I crit your sites, I'm sorry man this is has to be a joke. You have actually DE-learned some of the things you were learning.

Copy a site ground up design each image by hand without just copying it, then make it in HTML, even if it doesn't look perfectly the same its a good start and you will learn a ton.

Being high actually makes your work better and more precise. For some reason the attention to detail is increased dramatically. *cough*

:) I agree. It can also get those creative juices flowing. Unfortunately, during I am incapable of reading or counting. So say "No To Drugs", at least the hard ones. (-:

This guy has to be a joke. I bet he's one of the established members here, and he's just bored, and he pukes up the absolute worst designs he can vomit out and posts them to see how people will be, just for kicks.

"I actually draw a bit of animals."

Perfect, then start with that. It can be your inspiration for your site.

I think you might be right on this one.

And if this guy truly is a newbie, I apologize if this comes off wrong, but for some reason he gets the more feedback than anybody. And it's always extremely expanatory, but it doesn't seem like he follows thru with any of it.
